Eidos 1.17.1 improves installation and collection recovery, adds deeper conflict diagnostics, and makes the default installer work without elevated privileges.

Changes

  • Stage new and replacement installs before publication; preserve existing data on failures and report incomplete merges.
  • Track exact Nexus file identity and collection-owned folders for safer recovery.
  • Inspect conflicts inside Bethesda archives and show their winning mod/archive/plugin origins.
  • Diagnose plugin headers, index limits and declared SKSE/runtime compatibility before launch.
  • Record tool inputs and generated Overwrite output, with observed input drift.
  • Fix filesystem renames, directory cache invalidation, save rescue, download resumes, backup boundaries, stale interface results and concurrent metadata updates.

Installation

Download and extract eidos-1.17.1-x86_64-linux.tar.gz, then run ./install.sh from the extracted directory. It installs eidos and eidos-gui together in ~/.local/bin and registers the desktop/Nexus handlers. The default installation needs no sudo. To run without installing, keep both executables together and launch ./eidos-gui.

The official binaries are built on Ubuntu 24.04 for x86-64 Linux with glibc 2.39 or newer. FUSE support and fusermount3 are required. Kernel passthrough remains an optional diagnostic mode; granting a capability does not enable it.

Verification and limits

Local verification passed 1,336 distinct Cargo tests, 24 mounted FUSE checks and one isolated root/Overwrite launch check. Both FUSE directory modes, production Clippy, translation checks and the installer smoke check passed. Release artifacts are built and tested by the repository's Ubuntu workflow.

This release has not been validated in a Skyrim/Proton playthrough. Static DLL diagnostics cannot guarantee third-party hook compatibility. Archive extraction/preview, DDS/NIF previews, OMOD and some older-game sorting remain follow-up work; see the health review in the source tree.
