v0.2.5
Added
- Take over an agent you started outside muxel — a project's right-click menu has
Import…, which looks for agents running, or last run, outside muxel and lists
what that project can take over. A tmux session is the best case: muxel attaches a
pane to it, the agent keeps running exactly as it was, and the pane survives a
restart — that works whatever is inside, including agents that cannot resume a
conversation at all. An agent running outside tmux cannot have its terminal taken
over, so muxel offers to resume its conversation in a new pane instead and says so
in the row, because the one you started keeps running on it too. A past
conversation with nothing on it simply reopens where it left off. Each row says
what that agent was working on, which is what tells two sessions in the same folder
apart, and anything a pane already holds is left out, so importing can never put
two panes on one agent. Sessions elsewhere on the machine are listed as well,
tagged as outside the project, so you can pull one in on purpose. Remote projects
are searched over the connection they already have. - muxel installs on NixOS —
nix run github:ProjectHax/muxelruns it,
nix profile installkeeps it, and a NixOS or home-manager configuration can pull
it in through the flake's overlay. There is a development shell too, which is what
lets a checkout build there at all: nothing on NixOS puts the Wayland, Vulkan,
fontconfig and WebKit pieces where a build expects to find them. Linux, x86_64 and
aarch64. - muxel offers to install tmux when it is missing — without tmux, local agents
still run but do not survive closing muxel, and nothing said why. The first launch
that finds tmux missing now offers to install it and shows the exact commands
before anything runs. Only the install itself is elevated, through the desktop's
own password dialog; on a Mac it uses Homebrew as you, and a Mac without Homebrew
is pointed at it. The package manager's output streams into the dialog, which can
be hidden while it works, and a failure shows what went wrong along with a command
to paste into a terminal yourself. The offer is made once, and Install tmux…
in Settings opens it again.
Fixed
- A conversation Claude moved still resumes — Claude can carry a conversation
into another project directory when its working directory changes, or when you
pick a conversation belonging to somewhere else. muxel only ever looked where the
pane had started, decided the conversation had been deleted, and opened the pane
blank on a new one. It now finds a conversation by its own id wherever it has
moved to, and starts Claude in the directory Claude recorded for it — which
matters, because Claude refuses to resume a conversation from anywhere else. A
conversation is given up on only once muxel has confirmed it is really gone: a
session store it could not read leaves the pane's conversation alone rather than
quietly replacing it. - Reading a pane can no longer take every local agent down with it — finding an
agent's last reply, for read-aloud or for an outside tool driving muxel, asked tmux
for the pane's scrollback. On some tmux builds that request crashes the tmux
server, and one server holds every local session, so a single read killed every
agent at once — and with something reading repeatedly, agents were relaunched and
killed again before any of them could finish starting. muxel now reads a pane from
its own terminal, which keeps far more than any of those callers ask for, so tmux
is not asked at all. Remote panes have always worked this way. - The Linux
.debinstalls on the current Ubuntu and Debian — it asked for
library names that both distributions have since retired, so it refused to install
on Ubuntu 24.04 and Debian 13 while working fine on older releases. It now names
the current and the previous names together, so one package installs on all of
them. The.rpmwas never affected.
