DC-Y build and flight instructions

Assembling

  1. Before placing the flaps on the body, press Shift-Q nine times, or just rotate the flaps 45° when placed on the node.
  2. Place the legs in the 4 holes on the bottom of the body.
  3. Place 4 [WIP Vac engines] and 4 [WIP ASL engines] on the circle of eight nodes at bottom.
  4. Fill her up and you're ready to fly!

Flight

  1. If you are using MechJeb, set the Booster Pitch Rate to around 0.4-0.6°/s and limit acceleration to around 20-30m/s.
  2. Ensure your flaps' control authority is set to 0 before launch and RCS authority is set to 10.
  3. (optional) Cutoff the sea-level engines when acceleration gets too high.
  4. For entry, it is recommended to use MechJeb to hold attitude, set it to Svel+ with a pitch of 10°, change the flaps' control authority back to 45°.
  5. If you need to brake to slow down, ensure the deploy limit is set between 7-10°. S-turns can be done under 6km/s.
  6. When you are below 70km (or when the flaps start dancing), disable the pitch and yaw thrusters.
  7. At about 10km, slowly change the pitch from 10° to 20°, or you could try 30° if you re-enable the RCS and set it to full power.
  8. At about 1km, relight the sea-level engines, flip and burn, and touch down!

Happy flying!
