Troubleshooting
Common issues and their solutions when using the Atomic plugin.
Problem: After installation, the plugin doesn't appear in Rider.
Solutions:
- Ensure you have Rider 2025.1 or later
- Restart Rider after installation
- Check
FileβSettingsβPluginsβInstalledtab - Try manual installation from ZIP file
- Check Rider logs:
HelpβShow Log in Explorer
Problem: "Plugin is incompatible with current Rider version"
Solution:
- Update Rider to version 2025.1 or later
- Download the correct plugin version for your Rider
Problem: Files with .atomic extension show as plain text.
Solutions:
- Restart Rider
- Check file associations:
SettingsβEditorβFile Types - Manually associate
.atomicwith Atomic file type - Reinstall the plugin
Problem: Atomic files open but have no colors.
Solutions:
- Ensure the file has
.atomicextension (not.atomic.txt) - Check color scheme:
SettingsβEditorβColor SchemeβAtomic - Try switching color schemes and back
- File β Invalidate Caches and Restart
Problem: Ctrl+Shift+G doesn't work or action is missing.
Solutions:
- Ensure cursor is in an
.atomicfile - Check the file has required fields (
entityType, namespace, className) - Look for syntax errors (red underlines)
- Try right-click β Generate Entity API
Problem: No code is generated and no error shown.
Solutions:
- Check Rider Event Log:
ViewβTool WindowsβEvent Log - Verify all required fields are present
- Check write permissions on output directory
- Look for validation errors in the file
- Try manual generation with Test Auto Generation action
Problem: Generation succeeds but can't find the output file.
Solutions:
- Check the
directoryproperty in your .atomic file - Refresh the project:
FileβReload Project - Look in the same directory as the .atomic file (default)
- Check if the path is relative to project root
- Verify the project structure matches expectations
Problem: Ctrl+Space doesn't show type suggestions.
Solutions:
- Ensure you're in a
values:section - Type at least one character before Ctrl+Space
- Check that your project has compiled successfully
- Wait for indexing to complete (see bottom status bar)
- Try File β Invalidate Caches and Restart
Problem: No namespace completion in imports section.
Solutions:
- Ensure project references are loaded
- Build the project first
- Check that assemblies are referenced correctly
- Wait for project indexing to complete
Problem: Type validation fails for known types.
Solutions:
- Add the namespace to
imports:section - Use fully qualified type name
- Ensure the type exists in referenced assemblies
- Build the project to update type information
- Check for typos in type name
Problem: Multiple types with same name found.
Solutions:
- Use fully qualified name:
System.Collections.Generic.List<T> - Remove conflicting imports
- Use Quick Fix (Alt+Enter) to resolve
Problem: Validation error for missing required field.
Solutions:
- Add the missing field (entityType, namespace, or className)
- Use Quick Fix (Alt+Enter) to add automatically
- Check spelling of field names
Problem: File changes trigger slow regeneration.
Solutions:
- Increase debounce delay in settings
- Disable auto-generation and use manual (Ctrl+Shift+G)
- Split large files into smaller ones
- Check for circular dependencies
Problem: Rider becomes unresponsive.
Solutions:
- Disable auto-generation in settings
- Report issue with thread dump
- Check for infinite loops in configuration
- Reduce file complexity
Problem: Renaming in .atomic file doesn't update usages.
Solutions:
- Use Shift+F6 for rename refactoring (not manual edit)
- Ensure auto-generation is enabled
- Manually trigger regeneration after rename
- Check that generated files aren't read-only
Problem: Find Usages returns empty results.
Solutions:
- Ensure code has been generated
- Build the project after generation
- Wait for indexing to complete
- Check that generated files are included in project
Problem: Unity doesn't recognize generated C# files.
Solutions:
- Place generated files inside Assets folder
- Ensure .meta files are created
- Refresh Unity project
- Check assembly definition settings
- Verify file encoding is UTF-8
Problem: Generated code can't access types from other assemblies.
Solutions:
- Add assembly references to .asmdef file
- Use fully qualified type names
- Generate into the same assembly
- Check assembly dependency order
Meaning: The C# backend hasn't initialized yet.
Solution: Wait a few seconds and try again. If persists, restart Rider.
Meaning: The .atomic file isn't associated with a C# project.
Solution: Ensure the file is inside a project folder, not solution folder.
Meaning: Tag or value name isn't a valid C# identifier.
Solutions:
- Remove special characters
- Don't start with numbers
- Avoid C# keywords
- Use only letters, numbers, underscores
- Help β Diagnostic Tools β Debug Log Settings
- Add:
#com.jetbrains.rider.plugins.atomic:all - Reproduce the issue
- Check logs: Help β Show Log in Explorer
- Use Test Auto Generation action
- Use Diagnose Auto Generation action
- Check each service separately
- Verify file system permissions
Include:
- Rider version
- Plugin version
- .atomic file content
- Error messages
- Log files
