specify is a small Rust CLI that keeps template-driven YAML specs beside source files (<stem>.spec.yaml), so humans and agents can read intent and structure without opening the full implementation.

Highlights

  • specify init — Seeds .specify/templates/default.yaml, Cursor rule, command stubs, and the project specify skill.
  • specify generate <file> — Creates a paired spec with specify_template, optionally --template <name>.
  • specify check <file> — Verifies the spec exists, parses as YAML, declares specify_template, and matches .specify/templates/<name>.yaml. Human failures show a short summary plus a numbered list of issues; --json still returns { "ok", "issues" } for tooling.
  • specify sync — Audits existing specs against built-in include/exclude globs and paired sources.

Install

cargo install --git https://github.com/Pulko/specify --tag v0.1.0

Requirements

  • Rust toolchain (Cargo) to build from source.
