The newly released DCS 2.9.29.27278 includes changes to "Scripts/Input/Data.lua" so as usual a new mod update is required, fortunately ED doesn't update Data.lua often but every time it does and a user applies an outdated version of this mod over it it causes confusion and sometimes false bug reports to ED. It's understandable, a lot of people install the mod and forget about it and don't even think to check for updates and they see an issue with the control menu and immediately assume it's the game.

I've had some free time lately so I thought this update should try to solve that issue as comprehensively as I can. I've reworked the way the mod integrates with DCS to be much cleaner with a focus on making it less likely to break DCS silently and cause confusion.

Changes

  • The mod package no longer overwrites any core game files, it now installs to
"DCS World/Scripts/Hooks/QuagglesInputCommandInjector.lua". When the game is launched the mod patches the smallest part of the input code it needs in the live lua environment without touching any game files. Since no core game files are changed the mod shouldn't require updates when ED changes unrelated parts of Data.lua anymore.

  • It will automatically check for new Github releases and notify you about them when you start DCS, it runs once a week or when it sees your DCS version has changed and can be disabled if you prefer:

DCS_cf2QIbpCdj
  • It knows when Data.lua has been changed by an update and will warn you once to be on the lookout for potential issues:
DCS_gZnCNTyxCi
  • If it fails to load it will notify you and try to roll back the function it patches so it doesn't break anything in DCS:
DCS_d2MiFhM9Gt
  • If you've written any of your input command files incorrectly you will now get a clear error message when the game loads that profile:

Reminder

I've tested it out in singleplayer and in a multiplayer server with all integrity check options enabled and everything works but there are thousands of community input commands out there that I can't test so let me know if you have any issues with the new version.
