Numlex 4.8.1

Currency arithmetic, a dimension-agnostic Total bar, and the Tahoe sidebar glass fix.

Currency arithmetic

  • ISO codes are case-insensitive. 500 usd, 500 Usd and 500 USD all mean
500 US dollars (any of the 166 supported ISO codes).
  • Cross-currency + and -. A line may combine currencies: the first money
operand sets the result currency and every other operand is converted into it
    with the current rates. With 1 EUR = 1.1 USD, 500 usd - 300 eur is 500 − 300/1.1
    = $227.27. Symbols and codes mix ($500 - 300 eur, 500 usd - €300), and the
same rule applies to named values and live answer tokens.
  • Scalar and percentage operands keep their meaning (500 usd - 20 = $480.00,
    500 usd - 10% = $450.00), and assignments record money
(balance = 500 usd - 300 eur stores US dollars).
  • Rejected safely: currency × currency and currency ÷ currency stay errors
(never a silent squared currency); physical units still never convert implicitly.
  • Missing rates produce the explicit Rates unavailable answer — never a
guessed number, a partial sum or a stale rate.

Total bar

The persistent bottom Total panel now sums every ordinary scalar answer:
unitless numbers, unit-bearing quantities (2 kg), money, named values and exact
integers. It stays deliberately dimension-agnostic — one plain unitless number,
with no conversion between rows, no FX normalization and no unit suffix
(2 kg, $3 and 4 EUR total 9) — and inline total section commands are
unchanged and still excluded from it, so the two never double-count.

Sidebar glass on macOS 26 (Tahoe)

The New Sheet button, the selected sheet row and the active folder tab could render
as a near-solid gray surface on the new Liquid Glass renderer: an alpha-bearing
dynamic color was handed to Glass.tint, whose alpha the renderer reads as tint
strength. All sidebar surfaces now render through one shared primitive — a
deterministic wash drawn by a normal fill under one untinted Liquid Glass layer,
with a single boundary stroke — so the surfaces stay light in Light Appearance and
calm in Dark Appearance, with the same radii, hover, rename and drag-and-drop
behavior.

Install and update

  • macOS 26 or later, Apple Silicon (arm64).
  • Ad-hoc signed and not notarized. On first launch, Control-click (or
right-click) Numlex.app, choose Open, and confirm the prompt.
  • Installing: open the .dmg and drag Numlex.app into Applications.
  • Updating: 4.8.0 and later update in the app (Numlex → Check for Updates…, or
automatically). 4.7.0 and earlier have no updater — install 4.8.1 manually
once, then update in the app.
