v2026.09.18 — a decision's own dockets are its family
A decision's own dockets are its family (finder 2026-09-12, rank v3; PR #27).
Before this release, a decision's "own" dockets were only the docket it sits in. So a decision in EP 558 (2) read its own running header, EP 558, as a citation of another proceeding. The finder now treats the docket, its parent and its sub-dockets as the decision's own, never a sibling. This is the same closure the projection already used. A new finder version is a new rank_version, so the citator is re-declared and re-loaded under v3 (docs/runbook.md § The family re-load).
Loader fixes found in review:
- a resolution whose answer is unchanged is rewritten when its stamp's state differs, not only when its answer does;
- a key a person has decided keeps its citation when the finder now calls it a caption, and every such key is counted as
caption_held; - the runbook's rollback is a Litestream restore to a point before
declare, since a re-load is not additive.
The card (citation_dryrun.py with this finder): citation 224/255, resolution 218/246, projection 216/220, work 140 of 140. The 2026-09-11 finder on the same registry reproduces the declared card (224/257, 218/248). The family rule moves two benchmark mentions to captions and changes no found, resolved or projected count.
Reviews. Five rounds of Copilot and Codex on PR #27. Every finding is fixed or dated in docs/deferred.md. The final round on 88fcc50 was clean.
Not a migrating release. Deployed as routine: set DY_TAG, pull, bring up. Schema stays 28.
Deployed 2026-09-13 12:25 UTC, and re-loaded 12:29–12:31 UTC (restore point 12:29:12Z). declare used the card above. find read 19,944 documents with 72,935 findings. load ran 97 s with 0 failed, caption_held 0 and retracted 0. restamp --apply re-stamped 29,562 rows.
Measured on production with the shipped code, before and after:

No edge shown before was removed. One edge is new: a decision citing FD 32760 (46), the docket it is itself filed in, without naming a decision. Rows outnumber edges because one edge can carry more than one stamp. Seven is the net change in rows. Which rows were added or retired was not measured.
Left as residue, as expected: 903 live kind rows of finder 2026-09-01 and 903 pre-0026 readings. Both are keys the line-wrap re-load retracted.
