v0.8.12 — Cloudflare connection
v0.8.12 — Cloudflare connection
Install over the existing app. Do not uninstall or clear storage. No new
pairing or repertoire download is needed. The package ID, signing certificate,
encrypted pairing store, saved boards, repertoire edits and settings are unchanged.
The fixed PC gateway is now https://instinctazero.rs-industries.org. The previous
Tailscale hostname repeatedly returned NXDOMAIN from public DNS even when the
local engine and private Tailscale connection were healthy. The new release
removes that public-DNS dependency; it still needs the PC and its internet
connection to remain available.
The separate Cloudflare Tunnel exposes only /api/mobile/v1 and its descendants.
All other paths return 404. Device authentication and the existing active-game
fair-play checks are retained. There is no automatic cross-origin token fallback.
The old server route remains intact for rollback, and the existing Double Strike
tunnel and mail DNS records were not changed.
The native origin parser now accepts the standard implicit HTTPS port 443 while
retaining HTTPS, host, userinfo, path, query and fragment validation. The allow-list
tests cover the new host and reject the old host, HTTP, wrong port, host-suffix
spoofing and userinfo.
Verification
npm run check: all 65 tests pass under Node 24.testDebugUnitTest: 127 tests pass, 18 optional fixture tests skipped; release
lint and signed release build pass.- Version 0.8.12 / code 40, original application ID and signing certificate.
- Packaged app assets match v0.8.11; only the generated dexopt baseline differs.
- Google and Cloudflare public DNS both resolve the new hostname. HTTPS succeeds
with normal certificate verification. Unauthenticated session requests return
401; the root and desktop engine APIs return 404. - With the native client's user agent and a temporary paired device, the session
returned 200 and a start-position exact-SYCL analysis streamed progressive
results, finishing with adoneevent, 32 nodes and seven lines. Responses are
no-store. The fair-play gate was checked normally; no bypass was used. - Temporary diagnostic devices were revoked and existing device credentials were
compared unchanged. No saved game, board, repertoire or source PGN was edited.
These checks verify the public gateway and signed artifact, not a physical-phone
installation. The USB tethering phone was not used for testing. A short successful
check cannot establish long-term provider availability.
InstinctaZero Android v0.8.11 — Reliable saves & faster editing
Faster repertoire editing and reliable large-board saves, without changing the simple design.
- Fixed a confirmed restore bug that kept only the first 512 moves across a notation tree. Removed the silent 256 KiB board-save rejection; saves now commit transactionally, with a visible retry if storage fails.
- Repertoire additions no longer rebuild the imported book and its comments. A real-library extension measured about 20 ms instead of 800 ms in native desktop tests; lookup remained fast. These are not phone latency measurements.
- Large notation navigation updates in place instead of redrawing/serializing the entire tree. Mainline navigation, privacy, portrait orientation, comments, personal edits and Undo are preserved.
- Original board storage is backed up locally before migration. Existing repertoire PC backups remain compatible. Already-overwritten board branches are not guaranteed recoverable.
Install over your existing app; do not uninstall or clear its storage. No repertoire redownload, pairing change or PC restart is needed. Local PGNs and archived games are not modified.
Verified with native Android tests, isolated real-library refresh/restart/Undo/restore comparisons, separate-process board persistence, and phone-sized touch previews. The USB-tether phone was not used for testing.
InstinctaZero Android v0.8.10 — Unified repertoire library
Unified indexed repertoire library
Imported and personally added moves now share one indexed lookup path. The simple UI, privacy mode, analysis and mainline/repertoire navigation are unchanged.
- Preserves additions, deletions, recommendations, comments, local books, selections, Undo and compatible PC backups.
- Source explanations remain separately readable behind personal notes. Source null-move analysis records are retained but are not offered as playable moves.
- Migration, refresh, restart, Undo, replacement-phone restore and old-reader backup recovery passed 1,716 complete-response checks on isolated private copies.
Install the APK over the existing app. Allow one-time local repertoire preparation. No repertoire redownload, re-pairing or PC update is needed. Original recovery files are retained, so migration uses additional storage.
In synthetic host tests, a cold lookup with 1,000 added moves improved from 19.48 ms to 1.37 ms. These are not physical-phone measurements. The source library's 27 unresolved references remain unresolved.
Native tests, source-policy tests, release lint and phone-sized touch checks passed. The APK uses the existing production signing key, version 0.8.10 / code 38, and portrait orientation. No USB-phone testing.
See the migration and verification details.
InstinctaZero Android v0.8.9 — Repertoire and analysis performance
Merges the reviewed GPT-6 Pro performance PR (#1).
- Reduces repeated repertoire database opens, schema reads and local-edit scanning.
- Combines streamed analysis redraws per frame while retaining every analysis update and final snapshot.
- Bounds network/analysis-frame memory and avoids unnecessary game-thumbnail work.
Install over your current app. Same app identity and signing key; your saved games,
pairing, repertoire edits, comments, Undo and backups are retained. No repertoire
redownload, re-pairing or PC update is needed. The simple design is unchanged.
Verified locally with debug/release regressions, the real nine-repertoire corpus,
personal-edit refresh/restart/restore tests and phone-sized UI checks against the
signed APK assets. These are host tests, not measured physical-phone speedups.
InstinctaZero Android v0.8.8 — Repertoire transposition re-entry
The repertoire book now includes legal one-move transpositions into covered positions, even when the current source line has no recorded outgoing edge. These moves also appear alongside existing continuations, and end-of-line markers and repertoire intersections agree with the move list.
- Following a transposition loads its destination comments and continuations.
- Source informational/refutation labels and personal deletions/exclusions remain respected; nothing is engine-ranked or silently promoted.
- Personal comments stay editable separately from source notes, which remain readable in the comment panel.
- Bounded local caching keeps repeated navigation responsive.
- Simple design, privacy, maneuver arrows, ordinary repertoire editing, saved games and portrait behavior are unchanged.
Install this APK over the existing app. No library redownload or pairing reset is required for this app fix.
The separate source-reference audit/correction dataset is still pending. It is not included in this release; its exact snapshot and preservation checks must be accepted before deployment.
Verified: signed update; debug/release native regressions; independent checks at 648 positions across nine repertoires, including 23,192 legal move/destination/SAN comparisons; touch previews at three phone sizes and both board orientations. No physical-phone testing or handset speed claim.
InstinctaZero Android v0.8.7 — Maneuver arrows
v0.8.7 — Web maneuver arrows on mobile
In Analysis → Engine → Settings, choose Best + maneuver. The setting is
remembered. Best moves retains the previous display, and the existing Arrows
switch still turns all engine arrows off. Existing installations keep their
current best-move display until the new mode is selected.
This ports the current web app's Best + maneuver behavior, not a new plan mode:
- Follow the best PV's same piece through at most three own moves (six plies).
Opponent replies are skipped. A different moving piece ends the sequence. - Use the web's exact overlap/reversal rules for knights and sliding pieces.
- Maneuver arrows use the existing blue brush; alternative root moves retain
their grey visit/evaluation-weighted widths and suppression. - The existing Arrow count caps the total, with the maneuver first and alternative
moves filling any remaining places, exactly as on the web. - Flipping, ordinary navigation and inherited PVs all redraw locally. Selecting
the display mode does not start another analysis or add network requests.
No backend change, restart, re-pairing or repertoire redownload is needed. Install
over the existing app. Games, local PGNs, repertoire edits, Undo/backups, privacy,
portrait lock, canonical navigation and Return to mainline/intersection remain.
Verification
maneuver-arrows.test.mjs: same-piece horizon, both colours, promotions, invalid
moves, sliding-path intersections, knight reversals, arrow caps and unchanged
alternative weighting. When the web checkout is available, a parity test compares
the four maneuver helpers verbatim with its current implementation.ManeuverSettingsTest: native defaults/upgrades, typed validation, persistence
across bridge recreation, and preservation of existing controls.maneuver-arrows-ui.mjs: touch Chromium at 360×640, 390×780 and 412×844, with
4× CPU throttling. Verify exact SVG endpoints in both orientations, selection,
count/off controls, full settings visibility, actual board touch moves, immediate
inherited maneuvers, stale-response rejection, clearing on uncached positions,
rapid navigation and saved settings/board restoration. Also run against assets
extracted from the signed APK. Timings are host-preview observations, not phone
benchmarks.- Existing JS/native debug and release tests, real-corpus repertoire checks, privacy,
game-loading, repertoire editing/transposition/authoring, navigation and board-editor
touch regressions; release lint and APK signer/version/portrait/public-download checks.
No USB-phone testing or changes to the web service are required.
InstinctaZero Android v0.8.6 — Unified repertoire additions
v0.8.6 — One repertoire-add workflow
Version 0.8.5 added a generic single-response operation, not a hard-coded …b4
exception. It was nevertheless incomplete: ordinary Add line still rejected
informational source routes, and its test first saved the response separately.
This release removes that separate action and fixes ordinary Add move / Add
line. Play one move or several moves onward and save once. Informational and
regular source branches use the same controls and the same normal saved move
rows, recommendations and book markers. No preparatory save or PC annotation
change is needed. Earlier imported source labels remain intact; deliberate local
deletions and exclusions still require an explicit restore.
When multiple repertoires are selected, automatic targeting uses the actual
extension point for either kind of source branch, keeping training/deviation
context separate. Equally close choices still ask rather than choosing arbitrarily.
Original PGNs, games, existing edits, comments, selections, private PC backups and
Undo are retained. No repertoire redownload, re-pairing or server update is needed.
The simple design, privacy, portrait lock, canonical navigation and return symbol
are unchanged. Install this signed update over the existing app.
Verification
- Native SQLite regression starts with the untouched installed Taimanov corpus,
plays four further plies after the pictured …b4, and saves all five new moves in
one ordinary Add line operation. No intermediate write is used. - Compare the same extension from an informational and a regular parent; test
restart, whole-operation Undo, backup restore, a different legal move order,
position-rooted boards, and deliberate deletion/exclusion protection. - Additional synthetic refutation/informational branches, legacy exclusions,
independent transpositions, local authoring and existing full-corpus checks. repertoire-unified-add-ui.mjsuses actual native response fixtures at 360×640,
390×780 and 412×844. It touch-plays five plies before the only save, verifies the
single-move and multi-move controls and compares rendered rows and markers in
both cases.repertoire-editing-ui.mjsalso checks deletion/restore, navigation,
privacy and stream recovery. Run both against the extracted signed APK assets.- Existing JavaScript, native Android debug/release, privacy, game loading,
repertoire authoring/transposition and board-editor regressions; release lint,
APK signature, version, portrait manifest and public-download verification.
Tests use native Android host simulation and touch Chromium previews, not the
USB-tethering phone. Private corpus fixtures and screenshots are not distributed.
InstinctaZero Android v0.8.5 — Repertoire editing, backups and reliable navigation
Install the APK below over your existing app. No repertoire redownload or re-pairing is needed.
- Repertoire-aware return: in the Repertoires tab, the existing return symbol also finds the last repertoire intersection, including transpositions. Other tabs retain notation-only Return to mainline and canonical forward navigation.
- Editing: add the just-played response, including the reported …b4 case. Delete moves with Undo/restore, and choose the main recommendation without changing game notation or source PGNs.
- Private PC backups: local additions, deletions, labels, comments, phone-created repertoires, selections and the last Undo are backed up to your paired PC. Open Repertoire library → Backups and restore to check status or restore a dated version.
- Responsiveness: book markers arrive before full comments. Interrupted Leela searches recover visibly on the current position and reject stale replies.
The simple design, privacy mode, portrait lock, saved games and original PGNs are preserved. The PC backup endpoint is deployed and healthy.
Verified with native Android debug/release tests, 648 real-corpus comparisons, authenticated backup/restore checks, release lint and signing checks, and touch previews at three phone sizes using the APK's own assets. The tethering phone was not used. Marker improvements were measured in local test environments, not benchmarked on Rafael's phone.
InstinctaZero Android v0.8.4 — Privacy mode
v0.8.4 — Privacy mode
Turn on Privacy mode in Account / PC (also available on Home and in the
sidebar). Your account becomes Player; other player names, ratings and
account-bearing screen text are concealed. The setting stays on after restarting
or reconnecting and applies while games are loading, with either player colour.
To show real identities again, turn the same switch off. Editing concealed original
comments or repertoire names asks you explicitly before revealing the text.
This is display privacy, not anonymity for public Lichess games. Original accounts,
PGNs, saved games, repertoires and pairing are unchanged. No PC restart, re-pairing
or repertoire redownload is needed. The simple design, return-to-mainline control,
board editor and portrait-only activity remain intact.
Verified with native Android view/lifecycle regressions, JavaScript tests, release
lint, signing checks and touch previews at 360×640, 390×780 and 412×844, including
the signed APK's packaged assets. Tests check transient text during loading,
reconnect/reopen, both colours, account switching, comment reveal, and unchanged
saved metadata, navigation and repertoire behavior. No USB-phone testing.
InstinctaZero Android v0.8.3 — Easier position editing
v0.8.3 — Easier position editing
- Drag any piece to move it, even with a palette piece selected or Erase active.
- Tap an identical piece to remove it. Deselecting a palette piece selects Erase.
- Compact icon-led tools with short labels, and readable coordinates in both views.
- Reverse rotates the actual position 180° when it was entered from the wrong
side. It keeps piece colours and side to move unchanged and supports Undo. The
header Flip still changes only the view. After Reverse, check castling and
en-passant in State; incompatible rights are cleared, and Undo restores them.
Open Board editor from Home or More → Board editor in analysis. Your saved
board/game remains separate. Existing PGNs, repertoires, pairing, navigation and
portrait behavior are unchanged. No PC restart or repertoire redownload is needed.
Verification: JavaScript model/controller tests, Android debug/release regressions,
release lint and signed APK checks. Touch previews at 360×640, 390×780 and 412×844
cover tool-independent drag, fast/occupied drops, cancelled and multitouch gestures,
tap toggles, coordinates, reverse/Undo, FEN/state, independent source-board storage
and restart. Checks are repeated against the signed APK's assets alongside existing
game, mainline/return and repertoire/Undo/transposition previews. The USB phone is
not used for testing.
