How to build:

Windows:

Clone the repo:

git clone --branch 3.10 --recursive https://github.com/Randy420Marsh/cpython.git Python-3.10.18
cd Python-3.10.18

Install v142 build tools in vs2022, v142 should be recent enough fot 3.10 python

run in cmd prompt: "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio\2022\Community\VC\Auxiliary\Build\vcvars64.bat"

Build embeddable package and the installer:

PCbuild\build.bat -e -r -p x64

.\PCbuild\amd64\python -m venv venv

.\venv\scripts\activate.bat

python.exe -m pip install --upgrade pip

Tools\msi\buildrelease.bat -x64 --skip-nuget --test testout

The built python installer will be in \builds\Python-3.10\PCbuild\amd64\en-us as a python-3.10.18-amd64.exe along with other .exe packages and the python-3.10.18-embed-amd64.zip

Linux:

Edit apt sources and uncomment deb-src lines:

sudo nano /etc/apt/sources.list

Install dependencies:

sudo apt-get build-dep python3 ; sudo apt-get install build-essential gdb lcov pkg-config libbz2-dev libffi-dev libgdbm-dev libgdbm-compat-dev liblzma-dev libncurses5-dev libreadline6-dev libsqlite3-dev libssl-dev lzma lzma-dev tk-dev uuid-dev zlib1g-dev libmpdec-dev libssl-dev tk-dev libgdbm-dev libc6-dev libbz2-dev

Clone the repo:

git clone --branch 3.10 --recursive https://github.com/Randy420Marsh/cpython.git Python-3.10.18

Configure and build:

cd Python-3.10.18

configure options::

./configure --prefix=/usr/local --enable-optimizations --with-lto

make -j$(nproc)

make altinstall

which python3.10

python3.10 --version

/usr/local/bin/python3.10

Python 3.10.18

or download .deb and do sudo dpkg -i Python-3.10.18.deb

it will build python3 and place it in /usr/local/bin/python3.10 and /usr/local/bin/python3 via altinstall
