v0.3.0 (beta): microphone source, one-second start, setup window

Choose a tag to compare

@RandyNorthrup RandyNorthrup released this 19 Oct 22:17

The glasses' microphones on their own, a one-second start, a one-window setup, and every glasses setting in one place.

Warning

Beta, tested on one Windows 11 PC with one pair of Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 glasses. Setup makes this PC the glasses' owner, which disconnects them from the Meta AI phone app until you add them there again.

New

  • Microphone source: add Ray-Ban Meta Glasses Microphone (Direct) to use the glasses' microphones (48 kHz stereo) without their video. While only microphone sources are live, the camera and its light stay off.
  • Keep the glasses connected while OBS is open (off by default): the glasses connect when OBS starts and wait with the camera off, so a glasses source starts in about a second instead of about 13. It uses the glasses' battery the whole time and keeps that Wi-Fi adapter offline until OBS closes.
  • Setup window: the installer, and the new Set up glasses… button in OBS, open one window that explains the change of owner and shows the Meta login inside it. Nothing to copy or paste.
  • All settings in one place: every glasses source's properties now show Video, Audio, Glasses connection (Wi-Fi adapter, keep connected, status and battery level, shared by all glasses sources) and Glasses setup (Set up glasses…, and Forget behind a confirmation). Tools → Ray-Ban Meta Glasses (Direct) opens them.
  • Changes apply at once: quality and audio changes take 1–1.5 seconds and don't reconnect. 504 × 896 is now verified in OBS too.
  • Faster first frame: about 13 seconds from the scene going live, down from about 20.

Upgrading from 0.2.0

Close OBS, extract this zip and double-click Install.cmd. Answer n when it offers the glasses setup; your glasses stay set up and your glasses sources keep their settings.

Get started (new users)

  1. Pair the glasses with Windows: phone Bluetooth off, Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Add device → Bluetooth, fold the arms and hold the capture button about 12 s until the light blinks blue, then choose RB Meta ….
  2. Download meta-g-link-direct-0.3.0-windows-x64.zip below, close OBS, extract it and double-click Install.cmd. The files aren't code-signed: if SmartScreen warns, choose More info → Run anyway.
  3. Set up when the installer offers it: select Continue in the setup window and log in to Meta there.
  4. In OBS, add Ray-Ban Meta Glasses (Direct) (or the microphone source) to a scene and make it live.

Full guide: README.

Known limits

  • Streaming video drains the glasses' battery quickly (about 35–40 minutes per charge, unconfirmed). Battery life with only the microphone source hasn't been measured.
  • Audio/video sync hasn't been measured; use the source's Sync Offset in OBS if needed.
  • OBS 33 is verified with release candidate 33.0.0-rc2; the final 33.0 release hasn't been tested yet.
  • While the glasses are connected, their Wi-Fi adapter is on the glasses' network, which has no internet. Use Ethernet for online streams.
  • 1080 × 1920 and 360 × 640 are untested. Reconnection after a dropped link is untested on hardware, and the glasses' trust signature isn't verified yet.

Requirements: Windows 11 x64 · OBS Studio 32 or 33 · Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 · a Bluetooth adapter with LE and Classic · a Wi-Fi adapter (2.4 GHz)

v0.2.0 (beta): glasses audio, OBS 33 support, install on any drive

Choose a tag to compare

@RandyNorthrup RandyNorthrup released this 19 Oct 18:10

Optional glasses audio, OBS 33 support, and an installer that finds OBS on any drive.

Warning

Beta, tested on one Windows 11 PC with one pair of Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 glasses. Setup makes this PC the glasses' owner, which disconnects them from the Meta AI phone app until you add them there again.

New

  • Glasses microphone audio: turn it on in the source's properties and the glasses' microphones become the source's audio in the OBS mixer (48 kHz stereo). It's off by default. If you leave it off, nothing changes: your usual audio device stays your audio.
  • OBS 33: OBS 33 moves third-party plugins to a new folder layout, and OBS 34 stops loading plugins from the old obs-plugins folder. The installer now puts the plugin in %ProgramData%\obs-studio\plugins\meta-g-link-direct in the layouts both OBS 32 and OBS 33 read, so upgrading OBS later needs no reinstall, and it removes the old copy from 0.1.0. Verified with OBS 33.0.0-rc2 installed: the plugin loaded from the new layout and streamed video and audio.
  • Any drive: the installer finds OBS wherever it is, including a running OBS extracted anywhere and OBS from any Steam library, and takes system folders from Windows instead of assuming C:. If it picks the wrong OBS, run .\Install.cmd -ObsPath "D:\Apps\obs-studio".
  • Help, contributing and security guides (SUPPORT.md, CONTRIBUTING.md, SECURITY.md), with private vulnerability reporting.

v0.1.0 — first public pre-release

Choose a tag to compare

@RandyNorthrup RandyNorthrup released this 19 Oct 16:25

First public pre-release of Meta G Link Direct: your Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 2) glasses as a live first-person camera in OBS Studio on Windows. No phone, no app, no router or hotspot setup. The glasses create a short-range Wi-Fi network just for your PC.

Warning

Beta, tested on one Windows 11 PC with one pair of glasses. Setup makes this PC the glasses' owner, which disconnects them from the Meta AI phone app until you add them there again.

Get started

  1. Pair the glasses with Windows: phone Bluetooth off, Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Add device → Bluetooth, fold the arms and hold the capture button about 12 s until the light blinks blue, then choose RB Meta ….
  2. Download meta-g-link-direct-0.1.0-windows-x64.zip below, close OBS, extract it and double-click Install.cmd. The files aren't code-signed: if SmartScreen warns, choose More info → Run anyway.
  3. Set up when the installer offers it: log in to Meta in the browser and paste the final address back.
  4. In OBS, add Ray-Ban Meta Glasses (Direct) to a scene and make it live. The first frame takes about 20 seconds.

Full guide, troubleshooting and privacy notes: README.

What works

  • Live 720 × 1280 video at 30 fps in OBS 32.2.2, with no render frames skipped by the source through start, stream and stop.
  • A direct link: an encrypted Bluetooth session, then the glasses' own 2.4 GHz network, which the PC joins. Runs of up to 3 minutes with no stall, plus back-to-back stop/start cycles.
  • A Wi-Fi adapter choice in the source properties (Automatic, or a named adapter).
  • An installer that never closes OBS, a one-time Meta setup, and an owner key sealed to your Windows account. No telemetry.

Known limits

  • Streaming drains the glasses' battery quickly; one reading suggests about 35–40 minutes per charge (unconfirmed).
  • While the camera runs, its Wi-Fi adapter is on the glasses' network, which has no internet. Use Ethernet for online streams (a second Wi-Fi adapter is untested).
  • Only 720 × 1280 is verified. No glasses audio yet.
  • Reconnection after a dropped link is implemented but untested on hardware, and the glasses' trust signature isn't verified yet.

Windows 11 x64 · OBS Studio 32.x · Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 · a Bluetooth adapter with LE and Classic · a Wi-Fi adapter (2.4 GHz)
