Anabolic now runs on Linux too, and on both systems it shows each disk's partitions, every sensor it can read, and goes back and forward like a browser.

Linux: the same pages, read from Linux's own accounting: /proc and /sys, the kernel's perf events and netlink interfaces, fanotify, and systemd and the desktop over D-Bus. No kernel module, no eBPF program. Processes with their call stacks, open files and packages; who ran on each core and which processes each disk serves; Intel, AMD and NVIDIA GPUs; systemd services and autostart entries; interrupt time per handler; TCP traffic per program; Activity recordings with system calls, as strace shows them. Where Linux works differently, the page says how: see On Linux.

It needs x64, glibc 2.35 or later (any current distribution) and a Wayland or X11 desktop. Unpack the Linux zip and run ./anabolic; ./anabolic --install adds it to the application menu. Grant full access gives it what kernel traces and other users' processes need; see Getting started.

On both systems:

  • Partitions: each disk's partitions in order, with their type, file system, label, where they are mounted, their space, and the space left unallocated; on Linux, with what LUKS and LVM hold.
  • Sensors: every temperature, fan and power reading, grouped by device, with the hardware's own limits. Windows lets only drivers read the processor's temperature, so there the processor's power comes from its energy meter; NVIDIA GPUs add their power and limits, drives their warning and critical temperatures. A sleeping device is not woken to be read.
  • Back and forward: Alt+← and Alt+→, or the mouse's back and forward buttons, through the pages and processes visited.
  • Activity: New recording keeps the last recording, and Back returns to it.

Updating: 0.1.1 updates itself to this release. Coming from 0.1.0, download the Windows zip once and replace anabolic.exe with the one inside; your settings and history stay where they are.

Note

This release is not code-signed yet, so Windows SmartScreen may warn on first run: choose More info → Run anyway, or build it from source. On PCs with Smart App Control on, Windows blocks unsigned programs outright.
