PDF2Image v1.3.0 – Release Notes
This major release introduces significant performance gains via multi-threaded processing, a completely reorganized Settings UI, and new control over image file formats. The core code has been heavily refactored for future stability and maintenance.
Performance & Concurrency
The introduction of concurrent (multi-threaded) page processing drastically improves conversion speed for large PDF documents.
A more in-depth performance analysis can be found here.
- Massive Speedup: Performance tests show speedups reaching over 3.1x and time savings of nearly 68% on large files.
- Overall processing time for test files saw a speedup of approximately 2.54x (154% faster) on PC and 2.78x (178% faster) on the laptop.
- Custom Concurrency Setting: Added a new setting to allow users to configure the maximum number of pages to be processed concurrently.
New Features & Settings
- Configurable Image Formats: Users can now select the output file type: WebP, PNG, or JPEG. WebP is the new default, offering smaller file sizes and faster loading.
- New Settings Interface: The settings page has been completely reorganized into distinct sections (Image Settings, Insertion Settings, Advanced Settings, etc.), making configuration more intuitive.
- Header Extraction Out of Beta: The feature to extract headers from PDF pages is now fully stable and out of beta.
- Improved PDF Selection Modal: The modal now correctly reflects all options, including a fix for the misspelled insertion method (changed from 'Procedual' to 'Procedural').
