QuickFolders 6.17 - stuck "initialising QuickFolders" on some systems #697

Description

@RealRaven2000

3 users reported this issue on Thunderbird 154 after QuickFolders 6.17 went live today. I could not reproduce the issue. Steps to gather more information follow below:

Please carry out the following troubleshooting steps:

  1. Open the Browser Console:
  • Press Ctrl+Shift+J (or go to Tools → Developer Tools → Browser Console)

Please configure it as follows:

  1. Check for errors:
    • Are there any red exceptions mentioning “QuickFolders” or “storage”?
    • Please copy the complete text from the Browser Console using right-click → Copy all Messages.

This will create a text dump you can paste into an error text (plain text) file or email to me. Please do not send screenshots of the error console, as they are much harder to search and analyse.

  1. Try to export your QuickFolders settings:

Open Add-on Options via Add-ons and Themes :

Then open the License tab and, under Backup / Restore, click:

“Save Configuration…”

Please send me the exported file.

If the Save dialog does not appear, please check the Browser Console at the same time and send me any errors that appear there.

  1. try to only restart QuickFolders after resetting the console, and get the error console contents then
  • clear output first:
Image - in Add-ons Manager click the blue slider to disable QuickFolders, then click it again to restart it: Image - then copy the output of error console again via right-click → **Copy all Messages**
  1. Reinstall QuickFolders as a test:
    • Uninstall the add-on. Your existing settings will remain in the profile.
    • Restart Thunderbird.
    • Reinstall QuickFolders. This should also trigger another attempt to import the legacy settings.
    • Does QuickFolders initialise correctly after this?

If you cannot Export the settings here is a bumped version with old settings, which you can use for export - this is not going to work forever as 155 breaks everything, and Thunderbird now has 2-weeks publishing cycle following Firefox. So it is really important for me to get your data so I can try and reproduce the problem!!!
