3pane window content truncated at top

TB 151.0.1, QF 6.16.1, on macOS 15.7.5

Since the last QF update I experience a serious usability bug: QF's toolbar is hidden, and so are a displayed message's "From" field and TB's action buttons for forward, reply etc. Graphically this looks like if the quickfolders bar is covering all these top parts of a window which should usually sit below the quickfolders addition and not hidden under it.

Three weird observations:

• From all the folders I have as quickfolders buttons, the problem happens in all of the selected folders with the exception of one. This was the one that was originally selected after updating to QF 6.16.1 but I am not sure if this has any bearing on the issue.
• During my very first launch in QF 6.16.1, the QF toolbar was on the bottom of the window, and then in all subsequent TB launches, it was back on top (hidden/covered)
• Selecting a particular folder and then quitting TB, TB does remember that selection when launched once more, and the toolbar/graphics are correct at that moment. But after clicking other folders, the bug appears again as described above.

Toggling the "display the toolbar" preference does not help.
If all the quick folder buttons need more than one line, the cut off looks the same.

Same here. I would like to add that the content window moves upwards depending on which mail account you are in. The first mail account in the TB sidebar (where you see all accounts with all their folders) usually does not add any gray block at the bottom. The second account adds a bit and the more accounts you have, the bigger that gray area at the bottom will grow.
That problem does not exist when disabling the quickFolders extension.

To visualize that gray area, I'll add a screenshot with a marking.

@taaz are you on Tb 151 + Mac as well? I couldn't reproduce it but saw the issue once when Tb updated to the version from ATN but a restart fixed it.

If there is a way to reproduce it (such as selecting another / a special account) that would be helpful. Does roll back to the previous version (plus tb restart) fix it?

You can use the toolbar button to temporarily toggle the toolbar ( does the content move at all or dies it remain unchanged when the toolbar hides?)

Same for me with TB 151.0.1 (64 bits) Windows11 and QuickFolders 6.16.1
The toolbar button does hide the tabs, but the incorrect vertical offset is retained, so it does not solve the problem.

@RealRaven2000 sorry, forgot to mention. I am on TB 140.7.1esr (64-bit) on Ubuntu MATE.

Restarting does not fix it for me. Only disabling the extension completely. Also toggling the QuickFolders toolbar via the button in the upper right corner of the window does not help.

A downgrade to QuickFolder 6.15.1 fixes the problem for me.

To reproduce the problem, I think of the following steps:

• make sure to have multiple accounts (3+ I guess?)
• when you open folders from the first account, everything seems fine. surprisingly also for the second account.
• but once you're opening folders from later accounts via QuickFolders, the problem starts. BUT if I open the folders from the left thunderbird sidebar, there's no problem, only when opening the folder via QuickFolders tabs.
• The more you get to the bottom of the accounts list, the bigger the vertical offset at the bottom grows.

Sometimes I think that the offsets are changing sometimes? Or it's just my bad human memory. In the beginning I thought every account has a bit bigger offset than the other. But now it seems to grow only every two accounts.

My accounts in this TB instance:

.berlin account and @gmx.de account have no problems.
...ez.de and .info accounts have a little offset (about 16 px so that I can only read half of the word Inbox).
gmail has the biggest offset (about 110 px)

Same bug here on Windows, Thunderbird 140 ESR and 151.0.1, QuickFolders 6.16.1.

Identical symptoms: window content is pushed upwards, the QF toolbar covers the message list header (filter/search) and the message “From” line + TB action buttons. Also a white bar appears at the bottom. Like for the original reporter, all quickfolder buttons trigger it except the one that’s selected at startup, and toggling “Display the Toolbar” does not help.

Two extra data points that might help pin down the cause:

It’s tied to Windows display scaling. On my monitor set to 125% scaling the bug appears; on the same machine at 100% it’s completely fine. I have a dual-monitor setup — the bug only shows on the 125% monitor, never on the 100% one.

Downgrading to 6.15.1 fixes it completely.

Setup: Windows, Thunderbird 140 ESR and 151.0.1, dual monitor (125% + 100% scaling).

For me it has nothing to do with windows display scaling (is set to 100%).
But with tabs from 2nd account or imap shared folders.

Main issue seems to be the grey bar that is inserted at the main window bottom area.
With that everything moves up exact the height this offset has.

With tabs from my main account everything is fine here.
Selecting tabs from my 2nd account or from shared folders adds the bottom offset.
Switching back to a tab from the main account the offset disapears.

Edit: Only direct click on tabs has these effects. Selecting shared folders in the left folder list
activates the corresponding tab but does not bring up the bottom offset.

I know what caused it now., I had fallback code that tries replacing the WindowListener when it doesn't exist in the 3pane context (injecting current folder bar) and executes it's own injection routine. that routine was implemented sloppily and duplicated the target container element (div#threadPane) which is the gray bar at the bottom pushing content up unnecessarily. Here is a quick fix version for testing. To remove the superfluous element you must restart Thunderbird after installation:

Another improved version - this uses the original WindowListener if it exists. we accidentally tried getting window.WL but it is injected globally (not through window) => so we always ran the alternative injection path. Long term we want to eliminate WindowListener but it's not a trivial task.
