v0.89
Drone detection, and exports that are safe to share by default.
Most of this landed in v0.88, which went out with two build jobs red. v0.89 is the same code with those fixed. Use this one.
What's new
Drones. FlipDeFlock decodes Remote ID (ASTM F3411), the broadcast every unmanned aircraft in US airspace has to transmit. You get the aircraft's serial, its type, where it is, and where the person flying it is standing. It listens on both BLE and WiFi.
This is the only method that reaches them. Of the five drone vendors a US police department actually buys from (Skydio, BRINC, Aerodome, Flock, Paladin), only Skydio holds an IEEE MAC block, so a prefix list cannot see the other four.
Exports are redacted by default. Three options: Export Marked (Redacted), Export All (Redacted), Export All (RAW - private). The redacted files keep camera coordinates, since that is the point of the report, and drop the parts that describe you: MACs fall back to their OUI, sighting times and heading go, and any SSID that is not a Flock name is replaced by its shape. A scan picks up every household network in range, and an SSID is often a surname or a street address. RAW writes everything and puts _RAW in the filename so you can tell them apart later.
Body cameras. Axon units are found by the BWCDEVICE tag in the advert rather than by MAC, so they still show up when the address is randomised. Utility BodyWorn and Digital Ally added.
Survey mode. Logs every transmitter the board hears, matched or not, to survey.csv. If a drive comes back empty you can tell an empty street from a camera running hardware we do not recognise yet.
Signatures. Four field-observed Flock BLE names (Pigvision, FlockCam, RWLS-, and the shaped FS-XXXXXX unit id) plus two OUIs, each checked against the IEEE registry before being added. Seventeen prefixes that other projects carry were checked and rejected, including a Samsung block and thirteen Espressif ones that would have made the app detect its own companion board.
Fixed
- Every exported map point was tagged as a Flock ALPR camera whatever it actually was, so Axon poles, Ubicquia streetlights and acoustic sensors all went into GeoJSON and KML as Flock cameras. Tags follow the device class now, and a drone gets no OSM tags at all.
survey.csvwas never written by a scan shorter than the poll interval, and its counts were cumulative since the board booted instead of per scan. Both reported in #25.- The flasher logged progress as new lines, so you had to scroll to find the current percentage. It is a single bar now.
- The flasher gave you roughly 30 seconds to get the board into download mode before failing with a message that reads like a hardware fault. Now roughly two minutes.
- The bench emitter builds on Arduino core 3.x again, and the companion builds for the ESP32-C5.
Breaking changes
None. hits.csv gains three columns for Remote ID and still reads every older file.
Upgrading
Copy the .fap for your firmware to apps/Tools/ and reflash the companion if you want drones and the new BLE names. The companion now reports its own version on the ESP32 Firmware screen; if it reads pre-0.88 you are running older firmware than the app.
| Your firmware | Download |
|---|---|
| Official (OFW) | flipdeflock.fap |
| Momentum | flipdeflock-momentum.fap |
| Unleashed | flipdeflock-unleashed.fap |
| RogueMaster | deflock.fap |
| ESP32 companion (WROOM/WROVER) | flipdeflock_companion_esp32wroom.bin |
| ESP32-S2 companion (WiFi only, no BLE) | flipdeflock_companion_esp32s2.bin |
Companion images are merged and flash whole at offset 0x0.
