Recess now makes it easier to go from “what if?” to a working WordPress experiment.

  • Start instantly using WordPress’s hosted Playground, with no runtime setup. Instant sessions are temporary; Save creates a browser checkpoint you can recover later.
  • Use Try in Recess on an OpenStation plugin or theme ZIP to create a fresh experiment with it activated.
  • Get automatic checkpoints before Recess installs a package or restores a checkpoint. If the checkpoint cannot be saved, the operation stops.
  • Choose visual starting points for themes, plugins, learning WordPress, blogs, and fresh sites. Technical options stay under Advanced options.
  • Export an installed theme or plugin’s files as its own installable ZIP.
  • See browser save status and the last confirmed OpenStation backup. ZIP download requests are shown separately.

Existing saved sites keep their original runtime and storage. For automatically reopening sites, use a custom Recess runtime; the connection screen checks its client and browser storage access.

Download recess-for-openstation-0.2.0.zip and update the existing plugin through WordPress. Theme exports include files; Site Editor changes stored only in the database require a full-site ZIP.

Your next WordPress idea deserves a little room to play.

The first release of Recess brings saved WordPress sandboxes into OpenStation, with starter sites, reusable Blueprints, checkpoints, ZIP exports, file editing, and PHP/WP-CLI tools in a native app window.

Download recess-for-openstation-0.1.0.zip below and install it alongside OpenStation. A separate Playground runtime is required; follow the installation guide before your first session.

Sites stay in your browser; download backups of work you want to keep. This release does not provide automatic sync or deployment to hosting.

Source checks and 10 unit tests pass. Saved-site workflows were tested locally in Chromium, Firefox, and WebKit. See validation details.
