Release notes for 0.5.4.4
This release re-baselines MSFS 2024 support for the Sim Update 7 (SU7) formal release and SU8 beta, incorporates bundled SimConnect v1.8.1 library updates, delivers comprehensive In-Game Widget usability and window management enhancements for both 2D and VR, and resolves a false pause detection issue with Optical Flow OpenXR (OFXR). It also introduces an exit confirmation prompt for deferred auto-updates to prevent missed installations when exiting while MSFS is still running.
Note (Updated 15 Oct): The installer asset was updated to resolve an issue
where the installer/updater could hang on closing older versions.
If you already have 0.5.4.4 installed and working, you do not need to reinstall.
Please review the updated readme here, which provides a detailed description of the app, installation, features and settings, before asking any questions or raising any issues about the app.
Fixes and Improvements
MSFS 2024 SU7 Re-baseline
- Rolled application baseline for MSFS 2024 to the Sim Update 7 (SU7) formal release (and SU8 beta) and updated default memory offsets.
- Updated bundled SimConnect libraries to the latest MSFS 2024 SU7 SDK version (v1.8.1).
In-Game Widget Improvements
- Fixed the widget bottom edge acting as an invisible barrier that stopped the window being dragged lower on screen, and resolved content clipping when the window was widened.
- The widget now dynamically follows its content height so the frame always matches what is shown, while horizontal resizing continues to function as before.
- Set a new default start size so the widget opens near its connected dimensions.
- Enhanced widget dragging and visibility in both 2D and VR:
- Added dragging the widget by any empty area rather than just the title bar, allowing smooth repositioning with the title bar hidden without jumping when toggled.
- Fixed the move cursor disappearing after dragging in VR: the cursor now remains visible upon releasing the mouse button until the pointer leaves the draggable area.
- Made double-clicking to show or hide the title bar significantly easier, registering any two clicks close in time and position while still ignoring clicks on buttons, dropdowns, and checkboxes.
- Fixed the title bar reappearing after choosing a new flight type from the widget when it had previously been hidden; the title bar state is now saved when toggled from the widget the same as from the main app.
- Improved window positioning and reduced visual artifacts:
- Fixed the widget jumping to the opposite side of the screen in 2D after closing and reopening from the toolbar by anchoring the window to the left edge, with top left as the default start position.
- Reduced window flickering during reopen or resize by batching rapid width changes and only refreshing height when content shifts by more than a few pixels.
- Known limitations:
- The bottom edge can no longer be dragged because window height is automatic.
- In VR, widget width resets to default when closed and reopened (position and depth remain remembered).
- A single brief flash may still occur when the widget reopens or is resized.
- Existing users only need to use "reset panel positions" in MSFS if they encounter any positioning or sizing issues after updating, as it is not essential to do otherwise.
Optical Flow OpenXR (OFXR) Support
- Fixed an issue where OFXR could be falsely detected as paused upon entering VR.
- The pause detector now respects bridge startup, cleanup, and disarm boundaries so obsolete pause entries from previous bridge sessions are ignored.
Installer Improvements
- Added a confirmation prompt when closing the app while an auto-update is waiting for MSFS to exit.
- Explains that keeping the app open allows the update to install automatically once MSFS closes, or lets you choose to postpone it to next launch.
- Applies to all exit paths (system tray menu, title bar, and post-flight auto-close), while minimizing to the tray works as normal.
General Improvements
- Removed the message box advising when app-managed MSFS settings have been changed, as users are now generally familiar with this behaviour and app log entries provide sufficient notification.
