ChatDock Beta Build 1.7.5

Choose a tag to compare

@luraselenehalo luraselenehalo released this 14 Oct 01:32

New in Beta Build 1.7.5

  • The tab comes out sooner: hold the cursor on the screen edge for 0.5 s (it was 3 s). If you never changed it, yours moves to 0.5 s too. Pick another time any time: Settings → Opening the chat → Hold time at the edge.
  • Lighter on high refresh rate screens: the white tab uses less CPU while it waits for a click.

Fixed

  • Instagram and Facebook after a restart: if you had read the last message on your phone, the next one could come with no number and no pop-up.
  • Pop-ups after a game could show twice when the game ended, and the card after a locked PC said "during the game" instead of "while you were away".
  • Sleep when unused could put an app to sleep while it still had unread messages, and their pop-ups went with it.
  • Chat lists: a short message ("ok", one emoji) could show up as its time in the pop-up, a voice message playing in a hidden chat could be cut off, and clicking the tab could leave a half-written message behind.
  • Smaller things: a stray checkbox in What's new, a double-click on Clear data skipping its "click again" step, the update button pushing an app tab out of a narrow header, and the settings file being written over with the defaults when Windows couldn't read it at sign-in.

Install

Already have ChatDock? Press Update when the update pop-up comes (or Check for updates in Settings → Updates). From an Electron version (1.4 or older), the installer replaces the old copy by itself and keeps your logins.

New here? Download ChatDock_1.7.5_x64-setup.exe below and run it. The installer isn't code-signed with a Windows certificate, so SmartScreen may warn: choose More info → Run anyway.

ChatDock Beta Build 1.7.4

Choose a tag to compare

@luraselenehalo luraselenehalo released this 05 Oct 13:23

New in Beta Build 1.7.4

  • A guide on the first start: the first time you open ChatDock, five short animated steps show how it works: the screen edge, the hotkey, pop-ups, games and logging in. Each scene uses your own apps, hotkey and dock side. See it again any time: right-click the tray icon → How to use.
  • Game mode: while a game or a video fills the screen, pop-ups wait instead of covering your game (and while the PC is locked). When you leave it, one card shows who wrote and what; click a name to open that chat. Switch it on in the tray menu (Game mode) or in Settings → Notifications. Switching it on opens a short animated explainer.
  • Facebook's own logo (the blue "f") instead of Messenger's.
  • Smoother: the highlight glides to the app you pick, and unread numbers pop when they go up.

Fixed

  • Facebook's number counts chats only. It also counted Facebook's likes, comments and friend requests. And when its tab title briefly lost the number, the whole number could come back as new, with a "new message" pop-up. It now shows the unread chats from its chat list.

Install

Already have ChatDock? Press Update when the update pop-up comes (or Check for updates in Settings → Updates). From an Electron version (1.4 or older), the installer replaces the old copy by itself and keeps your logins.

ChatDock Beta Build 1.7.3

Choose a tag to compare

@luraselenehalo luraselenehalo released this 02 Oct 14:11

New in Beta Build 1.7.3

  • Instagram and Facebook pop-ups say who wrote: their name, their message and their picture, read from the chat list. These sites never send their notifications to ChatDock, so their pop-ups used to say only "new message". When the list can't be read, the pop-up says "new message" as before.
  • Straight into the conversation: click such a pop-up, or the app in the edge tab while something is unread, and that conversation opens. After the chat has been hidden a while, a page left on a conversation goes back to its chat list (not while you're typing or in a call), so the next message can be read there.

Safer

  • Nothing opens outside ChatDock without your click: a page or an ad can't open browser tabs, windows or programs by itself, and links only start e-mail and the chat apps' own programs.
  • The mic and camera work only where each app's calls and voice messages run, and chat pages can't reach programs on this PC.
  • Call and sign-in windows are ChatDock's own, with the same protections, and Hide from screenshots & streams now covers every ChatDock window.
  • Updates can't stall, come back as an older version, or be swapped before they run.
  • The log no longer contains your Windows user name.

Fixed

  • After a click on the edge of a pop-up, the chat could stay over the game instead of hiding.
  • Hide the chat in the tray menu opened it again, and a double-click on the tray icon opened it and closed it.
  • Mute all chat pages muted calls too: a Discord voice channel stays audible now.
  • The Update available button could spill out of the header and cover the volume bar.
  • Switching off the app on screen could leave it loading, a page that kept crashing reloaded without end, and an app that failed to start didn't try again.
  • Also: no double update checks, the log stays small, the zoom keys after Ctrl+wheel, What's new no longer opens scrolled down, and less CPU with the screen off.

Install

Already have ChatDock? Press Update when the update pop-up comes (or Check for updates in Settings → Updates). From an Electron version (1.4 or older), the installer replaces the old copy by itself and keeps your logins.

New here? Download ChatDock_1.7.3_x64-setup.exe below and run it. The installer isn't code-signed with a Windows certificate, so SmartScreen may warn: choose More info → Run anyway.

ChatDock Beta Build 1.7.2

Choose a tag to compare

@luraselenehalo luraselenehalo released this 29 Sep 06:25

New in Beta Build 1.7.2

  • Discord pop-ups say how to see who wrote: Discord only says who sent a message when its own desktop notifications are on. Until one of its notifications has come, its "new message" pop-ups tell you where to turn them on (User Settings → Notifications in Discord).
  • Steadier unread numbers: numbers you've already seen don't come back after a page reloads, and after a restart or a wake fewer new messages go without a number (when you had read the chat on your phone in between).

Fixed

  • After clearing an app's data (or all data) and logging in again, its first new messages could miss their unread number.
  • After an update that couldn't install, the screen edge stopped opening the chat until ChatDock was restarted.
  • A sign-out or shutdown that was called off could make ChatDock quit later instead of recovering.
  • Texts that still named Settings pages from before 1.6 now point to the right one: Settings → Opening the chat.

Install

Already have ChatDock? Press Update when the update pop-up comes (or Check for updates in Settings → Updates). From an Electron version (1.4 or older), the installer replaces the old copy by itself and keeps your logins.

ChatDock Beta Build 1.7.1

What's new in Beta Build 1.7.1

New in Beta Build 1.7.1

  • Spotify in ChatDock: listen without leaving your game. Switch it on under Settings → Chat apps → Spotify and log in once, like on the website. It keeps playing while ChatDock is hidden.
  • A volume for each app: the speaker at the top of the chat sets how loud that app plays, without touching the others. Turn the mouse wheel on it for quick steps; the slider can also mute the app. Videos played inside a chat (a YouTube link in Discord, say) follow it too; Messenger and Instagram call windows keep their own volume.
  • Discord pop-ups per server, easier: your servers are listed under Settings → Discord straight from Discord's sidebar, each with its own switch. The page also warns when Discord is set to sleep, since a sleeping Discord sends no pop-ups, with a one-click Keep awake.

Also

  • A chat that's playing sound keeps its memory while it's out of sight, so music in the background isn't disturbed.
  • What's new plays three new animated demos (the animation above).

What's new in Beta Build 1.7

New in Beta Build 1.7: Discord like the app

  • Share your screen: join a voice channel, press Share Your Screen and pick a window or the entire screen (turn on Share with system audio for the game's sound). It keeps going while ChatDock is hidden, and clicking the sharing bar no longer makes the chat disappear.
  • Pop-ups per server: a pop-up says which server and channel a message is from ("Discord · Gamers · #general"), and every server gets its own switch under Settings → Discord (direct and group messages too).
  • Voice keys: mute or deafen yourself in Discord from anywhere, even in a game, with keys you pick under Settings → Discord. A small pop-up says how it is now.
  • Call icons on the edge tab: while you're in a call a green phone shows under the apps, and a red screen while you share your screen. Click it to go straight back to the call. For Discord calls, and for Messenger and Instagram calls (they open in a call window of their own).
  • Calls don't get cut off: app sleep and memory saving leave a chat alone while it's in a call or sharing the screen, even when nobody talks.
  • An animated What's new: after an update, this window plays a short demo of each change (the animation above). Settings → Updates → See what's new shows it again.

Lighter

  • Next to no CPU or graphics card while hidden. An invisible loading animation kept redrawing ChatDock on every screen refresh (300 times a second on a 300 Hz screen) even while it was out of sight, and so did the loading spinner when the app you used last was asleep. Measured on a 300 Hz laptop with ChatDock hidden: from 2.5–4.4 s of CPU time every 15 seconds down to 0.1 s.

Install

Already have ChatDock? Press Update when the update pop-up comes (or Check for updates in Settings → Updates). From an Electron version (1.4 or older), the installer replaces the old copy by itself and keeps your logins.

New here? Download ChatDock_1.7.0_x64-setup.exe below and run it. The installer isn't code-signed with a Windows certificate, so SmartScreen may warn: choose More info → Run anyway.

Discord pop-ups come from Discord's own desktop notifications: turn them on once in Discord (User Settings → Notifications → Enable Desktop Notifications).

ChatDock Beta Build 1.6.2

Choose a tag to compare

@luraselenehalo luraselenehalo released this 28 Sep 13:23

New in Beta Build 1.6.2

  • Unread numbers that clear: the number on each app now counts only what's new since you last looked at it. Open the app and its number is gone, even when the site's own number also counts other things (Facebook and Instagram add likes, follows and other notifications to it). Anything new after that shows up again. ChatDock remembers what you've seen across restarts.

Fixed in Beta Build 1.6.2

  • Instagram notified again after you had read and replied. When a message arrived in the conversation you were reading, Instagram showed "(1)" for a moment and cleared it; closing the chat in that moment brought up a "new message" pop-up for it anyway. Anything counted while a chat is on screen now counts as seen.
  • About, the installer's details and the license now say © 2026 ResinCore.

Install

Already have ChatDock? Press Update when the update pop-up comes (or Check for updates in Settings → Updates). From an Electron version (1.4 or older), the installer replaces the old copy by itself and keeps your logins.

ChatDock Beta Build 1.6.1

@luraselenehalo luraselenehalo released this 28 Sep 11:16

New in Beta Build 1.6.1

  • Scrolling doesn't open the chat. A maximized browser's scrollbar sits right at the screen edge, so scrolling a page there used to bring out the white tab. Now, when you turn the mouse wheel with the pointer on the edge (or on the tab), the growing line and the tab go away and stay away until you move off the edge. Moving to the edge and holding still opens the chat as before.
  • It is on by default; Settings → Opening the chat → Scrolling at the edge doesn't open it switches it off.
  • How it works: while the edge is being held (or the tab is out), ChatDock gets a read-only copy of the mouse's input from Windows to notice the wheel. It never delays the mouse for anything else, games included, and listens only during that moment.

Install

Already have ChatDock? Press Update when the update pop-up comes (or Check for updates in Settings → Updates). From an Electron version (1.4 or older), the installer replaces the old copy by itself and keeps your logins.

ChatDock Beta Build 1.6

Choose a tag to compare

@luraselenehalo luraselenehalo released this 28 Sep 10:39

New in Beta Build 1.6

  • Several monitors, your way: a new Monitors & position page in Settings shows a map of your monitors, where they really are, with their own names (such as “DELL U2720Q” or “Built-in screen”).
    • Automatic (the default): push the mouse against the outer edge of any monitor and the chat opens there. The map lights up exactly the edges that work.
    • Or pick one monitor (click it on the map): the chat always opens there. It is remembered by the monitor itself, so the choice survives unplugging it and Windows renumbering its screens; while it is unplugged, ChatDock works as Automatic and goes back to it when it returns.
    • If the picked monitor's edge touches another monitor (so the mouse can't stop there), the page says so and offers the other edge when that one is free.
    • Show numbers on the screens puts a big number card on every monitor, and resting the mouse on a monitor in the map lights up that screen, so you know which is which.
    • Pop-ups can show on the chat's monitor, wherever the mouse is, or the main monitor.
  • Settings redesigned: a home page with search and a one-line summary under each category (how it is set right now), then a short page per category: General, Monitors & position, Opening the chat, Appearance, Chat apps, Notifications, Privacy & security, Updates, About. Search works in your language and in English.
  • Updating to 1.6 ends with the What's new window, like 1.5.3 does.

Install

Already have ChatDock? Press Update when the update pop-up comes (or Check for updates in Settings → Updates). From an Electron version (1.4 or older), the installer replaces the old copy by itself and keeps your logins.

ChatDock Beta Build 1.5.3

Choose a tag to compare

@luraselenehalo luraselenehalo released this 28 Sep 06:04

New in Beta Build 1.5.3

  • What's new after every update: when an update has installed and ChatDock starts again by itself, a window in the middle of the screen says "ChatDock is now on Beta Build 1.5.3 ✓" and lists what changed since the version you had. If you skipped versions, you get one list per release (from 1.5.1, for example: 1.5.3 and 1.5.2).
  • It never takes the keyboard from a game, and while a game runs in exclusive fullscreen (or a presentation is on) it waits until you're out. Got it, ✕ or Esc closes it; All versions on GitHub opens the full release list. The same list stays under Settings → Updates.

Install

Already have ChatDock? Press Update when the update pop-up comes (or Check for updates in Settings → Updates). Updating to this version already ends with the new What's new window. From an Electron version (1.4 or older), the installer replaces the old copy by itself and keeps your logins.
