@Revivedx Revivedx released this 25 Oct 20:47

A hotfix for AMD and Intel graphics on Windows. Since Alpha 3, AMD's and Intel's Windows drivers showed only a black window, the start screen included, where Alpha 2 drew (#85). On those drivers Savage Wind now goes back to Alpha 2's Vulkan setup: three newer features Alpha 3 turned on there (maintenance5, graphics pipeline libraries and attachment feedback loops) stay off.

Important

No game files are included. You need your own legally obtained copy of the game, extracted from your own Nintendo Switch. Savage Wind provides no game files, keys, firmware, dumping or decryption tools, or instructions to obtain any of them, and it never decrypts anything. The game code is recompiled on your machine, from your files, for your own use only: don't share it. This is a fan project, not affiliated with or endorsed by Nintendo.

Tip

AMD graphics on Windows: try resetting the driver's shader cache first. AMD Software (Adrenalin) > Gaming > Graphics > Reset Shader Cache, then start 0.3.0 again. On an RX 9070 XT that alone brought the game back, with all of Alpha 3's speed-ups on (#85). If it works for you, stay on 0.3.0, which is faster. Use this hotfix if the reset doesn't help.

Who needs it

You have What to do
Windows with AMD graphics Reset the shader cache and keep 0.3.0 (above); this release if that doesn't help
Windows with Intel graphics Use this release
Windows with NVIDIA Optional: it runs exactly as 0.3.0
Linux (desktop, Steam Deck, aarch64) Nothing: keep the 0.3.0 AppImages

Updating from 0.3.0: replace the files of your 0.3.0 folder with the zip's. Your game files, the game code built at setup, your saves and your settings stay: no new setup. New to Savage Wind? Follow the README; everything else about Alpha 3 is in the 0.3.0 release.

Help us find the cause

We don't have a Windows PC with AMD or Intel graphics, so this hotfix turns off all three features on those drivers. Two of them make the game faster, and we'd like them back. If you can, turn them back on one at a time and tell us in #85 which one brings the black window back, with your savagewind.log. Open a command prompt in the Savage Wind folder, run one line, then start savagewind.exe from that same window:

  • set SAVAGEWIND_VK_M5=1
  • set SAVAGEWIND_VK_GPL=1
  • set SAVAGEWIND_VK_FEEDBACK_LOOP=1
