A nice chunky update. More to come soon!

New

  • Choose how many options each artwork gets: 1, 3, 5, 7 or 10 (Art Style Preferences, first row; 5 stays the default). 1 gives just the top pick — Steam's own art when the game is on Steam. Every still option now downloads during the fetch, so the results screen shows each one straight away.
  • Animated previews download when you reach them, showing their size, a progress bar and a Cancel button, so a fetch no longer waits for every animation (they can be tens of MB each). While an animation is being prepared, a turning loading sign shows until it plays.
  • Faster fetches: results previews are small thumbnails (about 7 times smaller than the full images they used to be). Animated art (when you reach it), Steam's own art and icons still preview at full size, and Apply always installs the full image. Settings → Previews → Full-size previews brings back the old previews (it asks first — fetches then take much longer).

Changed

  • Your settings now live in one folder: ~/.config/NonSteamScraper on Linux and the Steam Deck, %APPDATA%\NonSteamScraper on Windows, instead of a dozen ~/.steamart_* files in your home folder. The first launch moves them there by itself; a file it can't move is copied and the original kept. While an older copy of the app is still running, 1.5.3 says so and doesn't start. An older version started afterwards begins as if it were new.

Fixed

  • Undo no longer hands your own artwork to Clear All Artwork. After Re-fetch or Search → Select on a game with art you made yourself, then Undo, a later Clear All Artwork could delete your file.
  • Undo never leaves a game with no artwork. It now puts the old art back before it removes the new art. A game it can't restore keeps its current art, and pressing Undo again retries it.
  • Queued icons are no longer lost when Steam's shortcut list can't be written (a damaged file, or one held open on Windows). They stay queued, the app says so, and it tries again.
  • An icon you apply can't be overwritten by an older queued one.
  • "Apply this one" counts as busy. While an option is still downloading or converting, Undo, Re-fetch, Ignore, Restore, Search → Select, the account switch, theme and Reset wait, and closing the app waits for the apply to finish.
  • "Exclude" always excludes. A last unfiltered search could apply art you had excluded (for example NSFW art or a white logo). A slot can now stay empty when SteamGridDB has nothing you allow.
  • A SteamGridDB error no longer counts as "no artwork". The log names the slots SteamGridDB didn't answer for, and their old art is kept.
  • One bad answer from SteamGridDB can't stop a whole fetch. Only that game is skipped.
  • A game with only a banner, or a half-finished download, still needs artwork, so the next fetch picks it up.
  • The results preview never shows another option's picture. A preview that can't load says "preview unavailable" and is downloaded again when you look at it.
  • The ▲/▼ sort button's tooltip no longer gets stuck on screen.
  • A damaged shortcuts.vdf no longer stops the app from starting. It opens with a message instead.
  • Windows opened after closing the results window mid-conversion no longer end up behind the main window in Game Mode.
  • The Search window tells "no results" from "no connection" and "key not accepted", and an older search can't overwrite newer results.
  • The Steam Account list in Settings follows dark mode.
  • Windows fit their content on any screen. Settings, Art Style Preferences, the Quick Start guide and the Search window open at the size their content needs (scrolling on a small screen) instead of a fixed size that could cut content off, and no longer maximize into a mostly empty window.
  • Maximizing the main window or the results keeps them readable — the content stays in a centred column — and the main window can't be made so short that a button disappears.
  • Art Style Preferences and the Quick Start guide open fully on screen.
  • A window that opens slowly still blocks the window behind it.
