The first public release of TextSnip — grab text from any app on your screen with on-device OCR.

What it does

  • Floating bubble that stays above every app
  • Drag a rectangle around any text on screen
  • On-device OCR (Google ML Kit) — nothing leaves your phone, and the captured image is deleted right after recognition
  • Edit, copy or share the result

Install

  1. Download TextSnip-v1.0.0.apk below and open it (allow installs from your browser/file manager if asked).
  2. On first launch, grant Display over other apps and Notifications.
  3. Tap Start bubble and accept Android's screen-capture prompt.

Requires Android 7.0 (API 24) or newer. Android only.

Notes

  • The persistent notification while the bubble is running is required by Android for screen capture; it's silent and has a Stop button.
  • On Android 15 some manufacturers (e.g. ColorOS) hide notification content system-wide while the screen is being captured — this clears as soon as you stop the bubble.
