@RichmarIII RichmarIII released this 24 Oct 22:44

First public experimental Sn compiler preview.

Sn targets C++ runtime performance with much faster compilation and an interactive native JIT. Those are intended 1.0 goals; this preview does not claim they have been achieved.

Download

Choose sn-0.2.0-preview.1-linux-x86_64.tar.gz below and verify it against SHA256SUMS. Extract it and follow README.md. The matching standard-library Sn sources and native runtimes are intentionally included. No proprietary compiler implementation files or private Git history are included. GitHub’s automatic “Source code” archives contain only this public distribution repository’s README and issue configuration.

Requirements

Linux x86_64, glibc 2.35 or newer. LLVM 22, LLD 22, the Clang binding library and non-glibc runtime dependencies are bundled. No creator SDK, source checkout or system LLVM 22 installation is required. Keep the extracted directory together.

AOT builds additionally require the system Clang C driver at /usr/bin/clang and normal development headers (clang package on Ubuntu/Debian). Use the included Bash activation script when running programs that need Sn native runtime libraries.

What was tested

The final package passed 19 expected-outcome checks each in clean Ubuntu 22.04 and Debian 12 containers: no network access, no private source or SDK mounted, an unrelated working directory, and a moved installation path containing spaces. Both included programs passed semantic checking, JIT execution, AOT compilation and native execution. The binding worker used installed builtin headers, rejected missing package data, recovered after restoration, and the language server initialized and shut down. A focused native regression passed 29 assertions.

The archive passed file-allowlist, extracted-manifest, ELF dependency, stripped-debug-section and creator-path audits. Read VALIDATION.md for the exact scope. These checks do not establish exhaustive API correctness, full sanitizer coverage, older-kernel compatibility or production readiness.

Known limitations

Automatic C imports are known broken in this preview: fresh minimal-header preparation fails with “complete operation capture failed”. Direct worker header extraction is a separate workflow. Automatic C++ header binding is not implemented. A complete persistent IDE hot-reload workflow is not included. Windows, macOS, ARM, musl and older glibc are not supported by this distribution.
