Translate 0.2.4
Translate 0.2.4 reduces backend memory use while typing and while idle.
- About half the backend memory in the matched test. WeChat Input Method uses a small native observer instead
of loading Frida by default. Backend working set was about 59 MiB instead of 117 MiB during typing and idle in a
73-second comparison. These figures exclude the interface and input-method processes; actual use varies. - Bounded candidate queues. If observation falls behind, Translate clears old candidates and waits for a fresh
composition before allowing insertion. It reconnects automatically after WeChat Input Method restarts. - The same interface and shortcuts. Candidate reading, translations and Alt+1 insertion were verified with both
WeChat Input Method and Microsoft Pinyin. Microsoft Pinyin keeps its full UI Automation implementation.
Quit the old app from Settings > About, unzip Translate-0.2.4-win-x64.zip, and run Translate.exe.
Your settings and saved API keys carry over.
Translate 0.2.3
Translate 0.2.3 refines Settings and makes shortcuts customizable.
- Custom shortcuts. Change Pause, Open Settings and Hide or show the panel in Settings › General. Translate tells you
if a combination can't be used or another app already holds it, and warns if a saved shortcut gets taken later. - Clearer Overview. One card says whether translation is on and what's translating (your service and model,
dictionary only, or local only). Input methods are listed with their state (Ready, Not running, Off) and a switch each. - Leaner Settings. About keeps what matters: version, updates, problem reports, licenses and Quit. Copy diagnostics,
the lookup-order diagram and repeated explanations are gone. - Hide or show the panel now follows its configured shortcut.
Quit the old app from Settings > About, unzip Translate-0.2.3-win-x64.zip, and run Translate.exe.
Your settings and saved API keys carry over.
Translate 0.2.2
Translate 0.2.2 shows both input-method connections clearly.
- Overview and About each show WeChat Input Method and Microsoft Pinyin on separate lines, with Connected or Not connected for each.
- Connection states refresh while Settings is open, including failures and adapter selection changes.
- The translation toggle and target language remain. Choose Automatic, WeChat Input Method, or Microsoft Pinyin in General.
- Includes the Microsoft Pinyin initialization fix from 0.2.1.
Quit the old app from Settings > About, unzip Translate-0.2.2-win-x64.zip, and run Translate.exe.
Your settings and saved API keys carry over.
Translate 0.2.1
Translate 0.2.1 fixes Microsoft Pinyin not working in Automatic or Microsoft Pinyin mode.
Fixed
- UI Automation bindings shipped in 0.2.0 could refuse to load after a Windows DLL timestamp changed. Translate now
loads the current system's bindings in memory, without changing Windows files or writing into the app directory. - Release checks now verify Microsoft Pinyin initialization separately, so a working WeChat connection cannot mask
a Microsoft Pinyin startup failure.
Update
Quit Translate from Settings > About, unzip Translate-0.2.1-win-x64.zip, and run Translate.exe.
Your existing settings, saved API keys and cache carry over. In General, choose Automatic or Microsoft Pinyin.
If Ctrl+Alt+P is occupied by another app, pause from Settings > Overview instead; run Translate.exe again to open Settings.
Microsoft Pinyin has been tested on Windows 11; Windows 10 and the previous-version compatibility mode remain unverified.
The app requires WebView2 and is not code-signed.
Translate 0.2.0
Translate 0.2.0 is a much smaller app that looks exactly the same, and it no longer covers the line you're typing on
near the bottom of the screen.
What's new
- Microsoft Pinyin support. Use Translate with Microsoft Pinyin, the input method built into Windows 11, as well as
WeChat Input Method. Settings › General › Input method: Automatic, WeChat Input Method or Microsoft Pinyin. - Less than a third of the size. Translate now uses the WebView2 Runtime built into Windows instead of bundling
its own copy of Chromium: about 61 MB to download and 156 MB unpacked (0.1.1: 198 MB and 474 MB). It uses
about 16 MB of memory until you first type, and drops back to about 20 MB a few minutes after you stop. - The same look. The panel, the full-text preview and Settings are pixel-identical to 0.1.1.
- Placement fix near the bottom of the screen. When there's no room under WeChat Input Method's bar, the panel
goes above it — and now also above the line you're typing on, instead of covering it. Translate reads the caret
from apps that report it (most do, including browsers and Chromium-based apps) and otherwise keeps a line's height
clear. - Simpler Settings › Overview. The three-step checklist is gone; a single Connect a translation service card
appears only while no service is set up.
Download
Translate-0.2.0-win-x64.zip — portable, for Windows 10/11 x64. Quit your current Translate (Settings › About ›
Quit), unzip, and run Translate.exe; your settings, keys and cache carry over. Check the download against
SHA256SUMS.txt. Not code-signed yet: if SmartScreen warns, choose More info › Run anyway.
Needs the Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime, which is part of Windows 11 and current Windows 10. If it's missing,
Translate says so and offers the download page.
Translate 0.1.0
Translate shows the translation of every WeChat Input Method candidate while you type pinyin, and inserts the one
you pick with Alt+1…9 or a click.
First public release.
Download
Translate-0.1.0-win-x64.zip — portable, for Windows 10/11 x64. Unzip anywhere and run Translate.exe; no
installer, admin rights or Python needed. Check it against SHA256SUMS.txt.
Translate isn't code-signed yet: if SmartScreen warns, choose More info › Run anyway.
Getting started
Type pinyin with WeChat Input Method in any app and the panel appears under the candidates. Run Translate.exe
again (or press Ctrl+Alt+O) to open Settings, choose a translation service, paste your API key and press
Test connection. Without a service, single words are still translated into English by the built-in dictionary.
Translate starts with Windows from the folder you ran it in; turn that off in Settings › General.
Before you install
- Tested with WeChat Input Method 3.0.0.34 on Windows 11. Other WeType versions may not work; please report yours.
- Translate attaches to WeType's process (with Frida) to read the candidates, which some security software flags.
- Not affiliated with Tencent or WeChat.
See the README for shortcuts, privacy and known limitations, and the
changelog.
