MediaFilez Desktop 1.2.0 replaces the rsdownit identity and rebuilds the download workflow around a mode-aware fallback chain.

Download engine

  • Adds Video, Image, and Audio modes, with muted video under advanced options.
  • Tries direct media, yt-dlp, authorized Cobalt endpoints, gallery-dl, the opt-in Instagram embed resolver, and public page media based on the selected mode.
  • Adds Pinterest and Instagram image and gallery handling.
  • Runs up to four download jobs at once.
  • Validates media type and file contents before publishing output.
  • Keeps existing files and uses collision-safe names.

Managed tools

  • Installs gallery-dl on demand from its official Codeberg release.
  • Verifies publisher SHA-256 files before installing managed tools.
  • Reuses browser sessions or Netscape cookie files for authorized downloads.
  • Reports provider failures and recovery actions when every fallback fails.

Desktop app

  • Renames the app, executable, installers, icons, and package metadata to MediaFilez Desktop.
  • Replaces the old four-option form with a three-mode workbench.
  • Adds responsive light and dark layouts from 320 px upward.
  • Updates history, settings, Cobalt endpoint pools, tool status, and update dialogs.

Security and release

  • Validates HTML-derived media targets before external tool dispatch.
  • Resolves and pins Cobalt endpoint addresses and revalidates safe redirects.
  • Prevents public Cobalt endpoints from redirecting requests into localhost.
  • Blocks Windows active-content formats and limits Open to known media types.
  • Updates h2 to resolve RUSTSEC-2026-0258.
  • Keeps community Cobalt and Instagram embed fallbacks disabled until enabled by the user.
  • Publishes signed updater metadata, SHA-256 checksums, and GitHub attestations with Windows artifacts.

Upgrade note

MediaFilez Desktop uses a new Tauri identifier and new local storage keys. Settings and history from rsdownit v0.1.1 do not migrate automatically. Downloaded media files are unaffected.
