Release list
v0.1.0 — Initial source release
First source release of the unofficial Ridge Racer PlayStation recompilation, targeting Ridge Racer (USA, SCUS-94300).
This release contains source only. Supply your own supported USA disc dump (CUE and all 14 referenced BIN tracks) and build locally. No game disc, original executable, generated game code, extracted assets, Sony BIOS or playable packages are distributed.
Features
- Enhanced rendering with higher resolutions, 4:3 and 16:9 output, perspective-correct textures, expanded scene visibility and interpolated rendering at selectable frame rates.
- Enhanced race, demo and replay scenes, car shadows, mirror-mode corrections, widescreen HUD placement and persistent fallen-sign rendering.
- Native car/course selection previews and animated title flag, with original framebuffer screens where needed, including the Galaga startup minigame.
- Mac display-callback pacing option, launcher settings, local saves and digital pad-mode compatibility for modern host controllers.
- Technical guides covering architecture, rendering, original timing and contributor workflows.
The original game controls physics, simulation timing, race progression, audio and replay behaviour. Increasing rendering FPS does not increase the physics rate.
Get started
Clone the tagged release with its submodules:
git clone --branch v0.1.0 --recurse-submodules https://github.com/RobGreenUK/Ridge-Racer-PS1-Recomp.git
cd Ridge-Racer-PS1-RecompGitHub's automatic source ZIP/tar archives omit submodule contents; the recursive clone above is recommended.
- macOS build guide: Apple Silicon, macOS 26 or newer.
- Windows build guide: Windows 11 x64, MSYS2 UCRT64.
- Playing and settings.
- Technical documentation.
Keep all game-derived files and local playable builds private; do not upload them to GitHub Releases, Actions artifacts or Git LFS.
Validation and known limits
- Release checks: all 79 project tests passed on macOS, including real OpenGL checks. The source-exclusion audit and staged whitespace checks passed.
- The macOS build and asset preparation were previously verified from a clean checkout. Mac renderer and pacing fixes have been playtested; later menu changes received visual smoke checks.
- Windows executables have been cross-compiled, but the Windows-native build and asset-preparation workflow still require end-to-end validation on Windows. This release does not claim Windows-native build or gameplay validation.
- Windows presentation/V-sync performance and fallen signs appearing below the road remain areas for further investigation. Physical controller connection, custom bindings and hotplug also need platform playtesting.
