dagent 0.9.5 adds observable provider streaming to the non-executing DAG design API and gives design turns a dedicated prompt profile.

Added

  • Runner.design_dag(...) accepts an optional synchronous on_event callback and reports the real provider reasoning stream through existing RunStreamEvent response and validation events.
  • The built-in dag_design profile provides design-specific instructions for creating, revising, checking, and explaining complete DAG candidates.

Changed

  • Calls without an event callback retain the 0.9.4 provider.chat transport behavior. Observed calls use provider.stream_chat without emitting structured candidate JSON as visible content deltas.
  • Returned design conversations store a natural proposal summary, no-change summary, answer, or deterministic failure message instead of raw structured model output.
  • Omitting agent selects the dedicated dag_design profile. Explicit DagAgent profiles continue to be honored.

Compatibility and migration

  • Runner.stream, execution, review, workspace, checkpoint, and capability-handler behavior are unchanged. DAG design remains non-executing and creates no Run state.
  • To retain the previous design prompt, pass DagAgent(planner_profile="dag_agent") explicitly.
  • The design-only profile is not advertised or accepted as an executable agent.dag_design capability.
  • No public schema, data, or persistence migration is required.

Verification

  • Frozen full Python suite: 1046 passed, 3 skipped.
  • Web suite: 125 passed; production build succeeded.
  • Wheel and source distribution built successfully; metadata reports dagent-ai 0.9.5, and the wheel contains the dag_design profile.
