As 3.0.x added ESP-IDF 6.x and ESP32 P4 support, a natural continuation is to add a proxy that allows the ESP32-C6 to instead of the ESP-Hosted distribution, which is ESP-IDF-specific and only have Wifi-related functionality, run Robusto.
This functionality currently supports flashing the C6 over SDIO which is a common communication method, some have implemented SPI, but that remains down the line.
Notably, any MCU could be used as a coprocessor this way as long it can run Robusto.
Summary:
- Supports delegating the PubSub functionality currently, more will come
- Can identify and flash onboad ESP32-C6 wifi co-processors
- Has interesting future posssibilties
