3Decks 1.0.2

More reliable saves, automatic reconnection and notifications that only ring once. This update fixes several issues reported by the community on Nintendo 3DS and 2DS.

What's improved

  • Settings save correctly: fixed the “Could not save to SD card” error. A green checkmark now confirms that your settings are saved.
  • Pair once, reconnect automatically: your console remembers the pairing so you don't have to enter it every time you open 3Decks.
  • No more repeating notification sounds: the same notification no longer rings over and over, and dismissing a notification on macOS won't make an older one ring again.
  • Windows-key shortcuts: you can now choose the Windows key when creating shortcuts in the editor.
  • Clearer audio messages on Windows: unsupported audio output actions no longer incorrectly ask you to enable a feature.

Which files do I need?

Download one file for your computer and one for your console:

Device File
Windows PC 3Decks_1.0.2_x64-setup.exe
Mac with Apple Silicon 3Decks_1.0.2_aarch64.dmg
Mac with Intel processor 3Decks_1.0.2_x64.dmg
3DS / 2DS — Homebrew Launcher deck3ds.3dsx
3DS / 2DS — HOME Menu (install with FBI) deck3ds.cia

3Decks v1.0.0

Give your Nintendo 3DS a second life as your own wireless Stream Deck.

The first public release of 3Decks is here!

3Decks is a free, open-source homebrew application that turns your Nintendo 3DS or 2DS into a customizable control deck for your Mac or Windows PC.

Use the console's touch screen to control your computer and its top screen to display useful information. Create your own pages in the desktop editor, preview your changes live, and customize your setup to suit your needs.

Meet Decky

3Decks also comes with its own little mascot: Decky!

Decky will guide you through the initial setup and can even keep you company on your console if you enable the optional screensaver.

What you can do

  • Make it yours: customizable pages with button grids, scrollable lists, icons and colours.
  • Control your music: playback controls for apps like Spotify and Apple Music, volume adjustment, audio output switching, album artwork and optional synchronized lyrics.
  • Keep desktop tools within reach: launch applications, trigger keyboard shortcuts and switch between open windows.
  • Bring your stream to the console: OBS controls and Twitch chat on the top screen.
  • See useful information: computer statistics and configurable top-screen displays.
  • Extend your setup: an extensions API for building custom actions and top-screen displays. Still a work in progress, but available for experimentation and contributions.
  • Choose your language: English and French interfaces on both desktop and console.

Which files should I download?

Install one desktop package and one console package.

Device Download
Mac with Apple Silicon — M1 or newer 3Decks_1.0.0_aarch64.dmg
Mac with an Intel processor 3Decks_1.0.0_x64.dmg
Windows PC — x64 3Decks_1.0.0_x64-setup.exe
3DS/2DS — Homebrew Launcher deck3ds.3dsx
3DS/2DS — HOME Menu, with custom firmware deck3ds.cia

The Windows .msi is an alternative installer. The .app.tar.gz, .sig and latest.json files are used by the built-in updater; you do not need them for a first installation.

Get started

  1. Install the desktop app.
  2. Copy the .3dsx to your SD card's 3ds folder, or install the .cia using FBI.
  3. Connect your computer and console to the same local network (your 3DS must be able to reach your computer over Wi-Fi).
  4. Open 3Decks on both devices and enter the pairing code shown on your computer.
  5. Start with the included pages or create your own layouts.

See the installation guide for detailed instructions.

Before your first launch

The desktop packages are not notarized by Apple or signed with a Windows publisher certificate, so macOS or Windows may display a security warning. The installation guide explains how to open the app.

Feature availability varies by operating system and media player. Windows notification history is unavailable with these installers, and Linux desktop packages are not included in this release.

Future published updates can be detected from the desktop app and installed after confirmation.

Open source & contributions

3Decks is a personal homebrew project developed with significant AI assistance, with the generated code reviewed by me.

As this is the first public release, there is still room for improvement. Pull requests, code reviews, bug reports and suggestions are very welcome, especially from developers familiar with the Nintendo 3DS homebrew ecosystem.

I'd love to see how the community can help improve and extend the project!
