Tomb Raider: Legend VR — 1.0.0
The first full release, after five previews. These notes cover everything since Preview 5. Bug reports with logs are still very welcome (see Reporting problems below).
Download: TRLVRmod-1.0.0.zip. Unzip it, copy everything inside Main - Copy these into the base game folder into the folder containing trl.exe, and follow READ ME FIRST.txt.
An existing trlvr.ini keeps your settings. New settings are added with their defaults.
What's new
Body
- Soft body in third person too. With immersive controls and
body_soft = 1, Lara's chest moves with her and gives under your hands in third person, as it already did in first person. - Your whole hand meets her body: palm, both sides of the hand and the fingers, not just the fingertip.
Mod support
- Player model mods work. The Lara Remastered Player Model Mod, and other replacement models with many more bones, no longer leave Lara invisible in first person.
- TR7-Menu-Hook's menu in VR. The mod loader those mods need has its own menu, which drew tiny in one eye. It now sits on a panel over your off hand:
- point your main hand at it (a laser shows where) and pull the main trigger to click;
- while you point at the panel, the game does not see that trigger, so you won't fire by accident;
imgui_panel = 0([vr]) turns the panel off.
function_keys = 0([developer]) makes F1–F9 do nothing, for mods that use those keys.
Known limitations
- Next Generation Content is not supported (black scene). Keep it off in the Setup dialog.
- Water looks flatter than on a monitor: the game's water reflection and full-screen water effect are skipped.
- Graphics options can only be changed in the Setup dialog or in
trlvr.ini. - Cinematics play in third person. Theatre mode shows them on a screen in the room instead.
- In first person without immersive controls, a mouse does not turn the view (a gamepad does).
- Windows Smart App Control blocks unsigned mods like this one. See the README.

Preview Build 5
Tomb Raider: Legend VR — Preview 5 Release Candidate
A preview build for testers. These notes cover everything since Preview 4, including the Preview 4 hotfix. Bug reports with logs are very welcome (see Reporting problems below).
Download: TRLVRmod-Preview5.zip. Unzip it, copy everything inside Main - Copy these into the base game folder into the folder containing trl.exe, and follow READ ME FIRST.txt.
Important
New defaults. A fresh trlvr.ini now starts with:
- immersive controls on;
- tracked hands on in first person;
- the radial gear menu;
- the right-stick long press stepping through classic, shoulder and board third person, then first person.
An existing trlvr.ini keeps your settings. To get the new defaults, rename it and start the game once.
What's new
Controls
-
Left stick: click opens the radial gear menu, hold pauses (swapped from before). Push the stick towards an item to pick it:
- up: health pack;
- right: binoculars;
- down: switch weapon;
- left: personal light.
This works in first person too. In menus, a click still goes back.
-
Guns come first. Reaching for a holster with gear in your hand puts the gear away and draws the gun.
-
Gear is held, not toggled. Binoculars, grapple, grenades and medipacks stay in your hand while you hold the grip. Let go and they go back on the belt or in their pouch, unless you threw them.
-
Binocular view only takes zoom (left stick) and the triggers. Press either grip, anywhere, to leave it.
-
Immersive first person no longer uses the grenade button (Y) or the weapon-switch click: the holsters and pouches do those.
-
Fingertip reach: the gear cross, the scale and zoom sliders and the theatre and diorama handles answer to your index fingertip as well as your palm.
-
smooth_turn_speedsets how fast smooth turning is, in degrees per second (default 120). -
The long-gun shoulder zone sits higher, so reaching for the medipack or the chest light no longer draws the rifle.
Motorbike (first person)
-
Grip a handlebar to hold it, then grip again to let go. Lara's hand stays on the bar.
bike_handlebarssets what holding does:Value What the handlebars do 1(default)Hold for show; the stick rides the bike 2Your hands steer: push the left hand forward to turn right, the right hand forward to turn left. The stick is the throttle 3As 2, plus a twist throttle on whichever hand is on a bar: rotate back to speed up, forward to slow and brake bike_handlebar_markers = 1shows where to grip. -
Shooting on the bike:
- your pistol is in your main hand, so the other hand can stay on the bar;
- the muzzle flash comes from the gun you are holding;
- the long gun no longer disappears.
Guns
- Pistols always sit in Lara's grip, including on the bike and after loading any checkpoint. No first draw is needed to "learn" the grip any more.
- The shotgun is lined up out of the box: the off hand sits on the pump and the barrel follows the crosshair.
- Left-handed play mirrors every gun's tuning automatically: foregrip, aim and the gun's angle in the hand.
- Built-in foregrip defaults for every long gun, including ones not tuned yet.
- For tuners:
gun_tuning_debug = 1lets you adjust a long gun's angle in the hand with the numpad: 8/2 pitch, 4/6 yaw, 9/3 roll, 5 resets. Foregrip and aim values intrlvr.iniapply live, without restarting.
Theatre window and board diorama
- Resize handles at both right-hand corners. Drag one to set the width and height separately, for any aspect ratio. On the diorama, the top handle moves the top of the box and the bottom handle moves the bottom. The new size is saved when you let go.
- Handles fade in only as a hand comes near.
- New setting:
cutscene_screen_height(0 keeps the 16:9 shape).
First person without immersive controls
- Lara's own animated hands, or her full body, and her guns are drawn.
- A gamepad's right stick turns the view.
Other
first_person_eye_heightcan now go lower, if your view sits too high on her body. It's about 3 units per cm.- The board-mode god hand (pick-up, palm, flick) only works at board scale or smaller, not in shoulder mode.
Fixes
- A warped copy of the crosshair, outlines and handles appeared in the other eye when they were close to your face.
- Diorama: hands vanished in the dark before reaching the handle, and a faded handle showed as a black bar.
Known limitations
- Next Generation Content is not supported (black scene). Keep it off in the Setup dialog.
- Water looks flatter than on a monitor: the game's water reflection and full-screen water effect are skipped.
- Graphics options can only be changed in the Setup dialog or in
trlvr.ini. - Windows Smart App Control blocks unsigned mods like this one. See the README.

Preview Build 4
Tomb Raider: Legend VR — Preview 4 Release Candidate
Bug reports with logs are very welcome (see Reporting problems below).
Download: TRLVRmod-Preview4.zip. Unzip it, copy everything inside Main - Copy these into the base game folder into the folder containing trl.exe, and follow READ ME FIRST.txt.
Important
Upgrading from Preview 3 or earlier? Run Pause menu → VR Settings → VR Holster Setup once. Holster positions are now measured from Lara's palm, not the controller, so older placements will sit slightly off. OR in the INI you can use reset_controller_tuning_on_load=1 to clear you current custom configuration to go back to default which should be more usable now. remember to turn reset_controller_tuning_on_load back to =0 though if you want to use your own tuned settings.
What's new
Hotfix 1
- Fixed the Motorcycle Chase in Level 2, can be controlled by thumb stick or grab the handles to Steer or control throttle
- Fixed the shotgun Aim and Grab points
- Added an option to change Smooth turning speed
| Entry | Choices |
|---|---|
| bike_handlebars | 1 · 2 · 3 |
| smooth_turn_speed | 120 [default] |
VR Settings in the pause menu
During a level, the game's Display menu becomes VR Settings. Each entry changes a VR option on the spot and saves it to trlvr.ini. Press an entry to step through its choices:
| Entry | Choices |
|---|---|
| Theatre | Off · Cutscenes · Always |
| Third Person | Classic · Shoulder · Board · All |
| Hand Collision | Off · On · On + Body |
| Body | Hands · Full |
| Left Handed | Off · On |
| Hardcore Mode | Off · On |
VR Holster Setup and Hand Calibration are still there. Everything is translated into the game's five languages (English, French, German, Italian, Spanish).
Comfort and camera
- Theatre mode: cutscenes, and optionally third-person play, are shown on a large window fixed in the room, still in 3D, instead of moving your view.
- Third-person scale and zoom: turn your off hand palm up to bring out two sliders that resize the world and move the camera in or out. They're saved per camera style.
- Board diorama (
board_diorama = 1): the tabletop world sits in an open box you can grab and move. - Hardcore mode (off by default): in first person, the view turns with Lara through flips, rolls and spins.
First person
- The pouches show the game's own medipack and grenade models while you carry any. If you have none, you see an outline instead.
- Roomscale: walk around your room and Lara follows, stopping at walls. A real step plays her walk animation.
- Finger tracking (
finger_tracking = 1): on Quest and Index controllers, Lara's fingers follow yours. - Full body:
- the torso gives a little as she moves;
- with Hand Collision set to On + Body, your hands stop at her body instead of passing through.
- The flashlight's glow and the grapple's rope now come from the gear in your hands.
Third person
-
Wall touch: walking beside a wall with nothing drawn, Lara reaches out and runs her hand along it. She keeps it there for a moment when she stops.
-
Radial gear menu: with the classic layout, hold the left stick and push it towards an item:
- up: health pack;
- right: binoculars;
- down: switch weapon;
- left: personal light.
With immersive controls, set
gear_menu = radialto use it instead of the 3D gear cross.
Controllers
- Quest (Oculus Touch) controllers get their own tuned defaults for hand alignment, aim and holsters. Other controllers keep the Reverb G2 defaults. The right set is picked automatically.
- The game's rumble (explosions, screen shakes) now reaches both VR controllers (
shake_rumble).
Graphics
-
The distance is sharper:
- the mod now actually switches off Depth of Field and Fullscreen Effects at every start (in earlier previews this setting could fail to take effect);
- it also switches on the game's anti-aliasing, with its strength capped by
msaa.
-
New
trlvr.inisettings:fullscreen_effects = off;fsaa = on.
Set either one, or
depth_of_field, togameto keep what the Setup dialog says.
Fixes
- Sky: the sky no longer slides when you push the right stick up or down, or enter precision aim. This affected levels whose sky sits close to the camera, such as the second level.
- Vine climbing:
- hand-over-hand pulls on vines now climb reliably;
- each grip climbs in one direction only, set by your first pull. Let go and grip again to change direction.
- The pause menu no longer drops the frame rate.
- Tutorial and context prompts show the right VR button name in every language.
- Many smaller fixes.
Known limitations
- Next Generation Content is not supported (black scene). Keep it off in the Setup dialog.
- Water looks flatter than on a monitor: the game's water reflection and full-screen water effect only exist for one eye, so they are skipped.
- Graphics options can only be changed in the Setup dialog or in
trlvr.ini. During a level, the in-game Display menu is the VR Settings menu instead. - Windows Smart App Control blocks unsigned mods like this one. See the README.

Preview Build 3
Tomb Raider: Legend VR Preview 3
Another round of fixes, Thanks you Hostile and Mr. Kaizer!
New
- Aim calibration: Hand Calibration (Pause → VR Settings) now has a second step in first person — point your pistol at the target and pull the trigger to set your aim. Fixes the crosshair being far off on Quest and other controllers. Off hand is mirrored for Hands aiming mode.
- Skip steps: press A during Hand Calibration to skip a step and keep what you had; the menu button stops.
Fixed
- Third-person crosshair now sits where Lara is actually aiming (including environmental targets), shows only with guns drawn or in precision aim, and is white until it's on a target, then red.
- Board mode hands now line up with your controllers exactly like the other views .
- PDA: its background is now pinned behind the menu at the right size instead of following your head.
Tips
- If you calibrated your hands in Preview 2, run Hand Calibration again to set your aim (you can press A to skip the hand step).
Reporting problems

Preview Build 2
Tomb Raider: Legend VR — Preview 2
Thanks to everyone who tested Preview 1.
New
- Switch view any time: with immersive controls on, long-press the right stick (or press
\) in gameplay to swap between first and third person. Setthird_person_mode = allto cycle classic → shoulder → board → first person instead. - Hand Calibration (Pause → VR Settings → Hand Calibration): Lara holds her hands out with guns drawn, wire boxes show your real controllers, and you squeeze each grip to lock your hands in. Fixes hands not lining up with your controllers (common on Quest).
- PDA is now on the right stick double-click, and tutorial prompts show it.
- One crosshair everywhere: the game's flat lock-on rings are replaced by the VR crosshair. First person aims straight from your controller; third person puts it on the game's auto-target.
- One-hand catches: a clear yellow GRIP pill fixed in your view (higher for swing bars), and about 6 seconds to grab instead of 1.5 (
catch_extra_time).auto_secure_catchnow takesoff,barsorall.
Improved
- Quest and other headsets with an uneven vertical field of view: fixed the world warping with head movement.
- Ledge pull-ups in first person always use the quick animation.
- The shoulder camera now turns like classic (follows
camera_auto_center). - The pause menu's Display page is now VR Settings; holster setup has more reliable menu entries and on-screen messages when it can't start.
- Pausing no longer leaves your pistols floating beside your hands.
- Fixed a black slab that could appear in front of you in third person.
- Holster setup is cancelled with the menu button (left stick click).
Notes
- SteamVR may keep your old controller bindings. If the PDA double-click does nothing, reselect the default binding for the game in SteamVR's controller settings.
- Next Generation Content is still unsupported; changing anti-aliasing in game still crashes (use the launcher's Setup dialog).
Reporting problems

Mainfolder's contents next totrl.exe. On GOG, rename the game's ownD3D9.dllfirst. - Steam: set the launch option to
trlvr_launcher.exe(the exact line is in the readme). GOG: runtrlvr_launcher.exe. - In the game's Setup dialog, turn off Next Generation Content and Fullscreen Effects.

Known issues
- Next Generation Content is not supported (black scene).
- Water reflections are skipped, so water looks flatter.
- Changing anti-aliasing in the in-game options crashes the game. Use the Setup dialog instead.
- Some busy scenes (e.g. animal attacks) dip in frame rate.
- No hand collision yet in first person.
- Windows Smart App Control blocks the unsigned mod; see the README.
Reporting problems
Please include trlvr.log, trlvr.log.prev, trl_vr_d3d9.log and, after a crash, trlvr_crash.dmp, all from the game folder. Say roughly what you were doing and when.
