TAK Video Wall v1.1.3

Choose a tag to compare

@RyanR3 RyanR3 released this 26 Sep 15:28

Adds stream audio, fixes RTSP latency, and tightens up the on-tile controls.

New in v1.1.3

Audio from streams

Tiles that carry an audio track can now play it. Each tile has a speaker button next to the pin — tap to unmute, tap again to mute. Audio is off by default on every feed, so nothing starts making noise on its own, and each tile is independent: you can listen to one feed while the rest stay silent.

Unmuting an RTSP feed reconnects that tile, which takes a moment and adds a little latency while audio is on. That is a deliberate trade: muted RTSP playback uses the low-latency path, and audio requires the demuxing path. Mute again and the tile returns to the fast path.

Fixed in v1.1.3

RTSP latency

RTSP feeds from other EUDs had become noticeably delayed compared to ATAK's built-in player. Muted RTSP playback now uses the same low-latency connection path as the native player, so a feed on the wall tracks the one in ATAK.

Video no longer freezes when toggling audio

Switching a tile's audio on or off could freeze its video. The reconnect now happens off the UI thread, so the rest of the wall keeps rendering while that one tile re-establishes its stream.

Changed in v1.1.3

Smaller, cleaner tile controls

With three or more feeds on the wall the buttons crowded the video. Every visible control is smaller, and the close, pin, and speaker buttons now share one round enclosure style with the full-screen and add buttons. The full-screen and + buttons sit inline with the tile controls instead of below them, and the speaker uses a proper speaker glyph in the same single colour as the rest.

Official ATAK builds are version-matched — install the APK for your ATAK version:

APK ATAK version
ATAK-Plugin-TAKVideoWall-1.1.3--5.6.0-civ-release.apk ATAK-CIV 5.6.x
ATAK-Plugin-TAKVideoWall-1.1.3--5.7.0-civ-release.apk ATAK-CIV 5.7.x
ATAK-Plugin-TAKVideoWall-1.1.3--5.8.0-civ-release.apk ATAK-CIV 5.8.x

All three are TPC-signed release builds from the tak.gov third-party pipeline, and all report version 1.1.3 (versionCode 10103). This clears up the version labelling in v1.1.2, where the 5.8 APK displayed 1.1.3 in-app while carrying v1.1.2 code — every APK in this release is genuinely 1.1.3.

Upgrades apply cleanly over any previous release on MDM platforms, including Samsung Knox.

TAK Video Wall v1.1.2

@RyanR3 RyanR3 released this 26 Aug 04:22

Bug-fix release.

Fixed in v1.1.2

Toolbar placement now survives restarts

The Video Wall button no longer snaps back to ATAK's overflow menu after a restart. The plugin's toolbar item previously had no stable identity, so ATAK could never re-apply a saved placement. After updating, drag the icon into position once — it will hold from then on.

HTTP/HLS feeds now play

Feeds served over HTTP/HTTPS — including HLS (.m3u8) streams such as public fixed cameras — previously failed to connect on the wall even though ATAK's built-in player handled them. Playback now selects the correct decoder path per protocol (RTSP, HTTP/HLS/RTMP, and local files), matching ATAK's own player.

MDM upgrades (Samsung Knox)

Release APKs now carry a proper incrementing versionCode (1.1.2 → 10102). Earlier releases all reported versionCode 1, which made MDM platforms such as Samsung Knox refuse to apply upgrades. This release upgrades cleanly over any previous version.

Feature and stability release.

New in v1.1.1

Pinned (persistent) feeds

Every tile now carries a pin control (☆/★). A pinned feed — an always-on fixed camera, a DOT feed — survives liveness checks and comes back automatically after ATAK restarts, plugin updates, and reboots. Closing a pinned tile unpins it.

Saved feeds in the drawer

The feed list now has two sections: STREAMING NOW (live CoT senders) and LIVE - SAVED FEEDS (ATAK's saved video aliases). Fixed cameras with no CoT presence are finally addable to the wall.

Saved-feed liveness filtering

Saved RTSP aliases are checked with an RTSP DESCRIBE — the same question a player asks before setup — so aliases with no stream behind them stay off the list. Verdicts only change on an affirmative server answer; network hiccups never blink a row (sustained unreachability still clears it). Aliases the server refuses to answer for (missing/rejected credentials, non-RTSP protocols) are always shown rather than risk hiding a working feed.

Other improvements

  • Closing the last tile opens the feed list directly instead of an empty-wall screen
  • Migrated to ATAK's stable video API (gov.tak.api)
  • Larger, styled play control in the feed list

TAK Video Wall v1.0

@RyanR3 RyanR3 released this 09 Aug 03:21

Initial release of TAK Video Wall — simultaneous multi-stream video monitoring for ATAK.

Highlights

  • Adaptive grid that fills the pane with no empty cells, for any feed count
  • Paged 2×2 wall — only the visible page decodes, keeping large walls inside the device's hardware decoder budget
  • Automatic feed discovery from CoT: feeds appear when a sender starts streaming and drop off when it stops
  • Snap-to — collapse to a single feed beside the map, centered on the sender's marker
  • Feed drawer with each sender's 2525 symbol in team color, team name, battery gauge, and pan-to
  • Map-view filter to list only senders inside the current view
  • Full-screen toggle without stream reconnection; no bundled codecs (~37 KB APK)
