@Ryukotsuki Ryukotsuki released this 07 Oct 21:30

Pokémon Showdown Pro v1.1.6

This release improves Linux AppImage packaging, adds support for external AppImage update tools, and strengthens release verification and compatibility checks.

Linux AppImage Improvements

  • Updated the AppImage to use a static launcher runtime, removing the launcher’s dependency on system libfuse2.
  • Simplified AppImage filenames by removing the redundant linux label.
    • Example: PokemonShowdownPro-1.1.6-x86_64.AppImage
  • Preserved extract-and-run support for systems where normal FUSE mounting is unavailable.

AppImage Update Support

  • Added embedded update information for AppImageUpdate and other compatible update tools.
  • Added matching .AppImage.zsync assets to Linux releases.
  • Regenerated checksums and embedded block maps after packaging to preserve compatibility with Pokémon Showdown Pro’s built-in updater.
  • Linked external update metadata to the exact corresponding release version.

Release Verification

  • Added verification for the static AppImage runtime and embedded update information.
  • Added checks to ensure .zsync metadata matches the final packaged AppImage.
  • Added a linux-compatibility.json release asset that reports the glibc requirements of bundled binaries.
  • Updated Linux shortcut verification to validate both the current release’s AppImage and TAR.GZ packages.

Linux Compatibility

The AppImage launcher no longer requires system libfuse2.

Normal AppImage mounting still requires working FUSE support, while Electron and other bundled components continue to depend on compatible system libraries, including glibc.

Systems without working FUSE support can continue using the AppImage through its extract-and-run fallback.

@Ryukotsuki Ryukotsuki released this 07 Oct 14:51

Pokémon Showdown Pro v1.1.5

This release fixes an updater startup issue that could cause Linux TAR.GZ installations to incorrectly roll back to the previous version after the app was closed.

Auto-Updater Fix

  • Fixed successful updates being incorrectly rolled back when Pokémon Showdown Pro was closed before Showdown finished loading.
  • Changed startup confirmation to occur as soon as the local Battle Hub is ready instead of waiting for Showdown’s online page to finish loading.
  • Prevented slow, unavailable, or stalled network connections from blocking successful update confirmation.
  • Preserved rollback protection when an updated application genuinely fails to start correctly.

Update Verification

  • Added a startup test that deliberately stalls Showdown’s connection to verify that Pokémon Showdown Pro can still confirm a successful update.
  • Added regression coverage for normally closing an updated Linux installation without restoring the previous version.
  • Added the new startup verification check to Windows, macOS, and Linux build workflows.

@Ryukotsuki Ryukotsuki released this 06 Oct 05:39

Pokémon Showdown Pro v1.1.4

This release fixes the macOS packaging issue that could cause downloaded Pokémon Showdown Pro releases to be reported as damaged, while strengthening release verification for both Intel and Apple Silicon builds.

macOS Packaging Fixes

  • Added ad-hoc code signing to provide a valid resource signature for packaged macOS applications.
  • Updated signing configuration for the bundled Node.js update runtime.
  • Applied the updated packaging process to both Intel and Apple Silicon builds.
  • Preserved the same application features and in-app updater support across both DMG and ZIP releases.

Release Verification

  • Added stricter signature verification for the packaged application and bundled update runtime.
  • Added validation of the application contained in both DMG and ZIP releases.
  • Updated updater audits to re-sign modified test builds before testing installation and rollback behavior.
  • Added regression checks for missing resource seals and other signature verification failures.

Installation Note

macOS releases now use an ad-hoc signature, but are not Apple-notarized. Depending on your macOS security settings, you may still need to approve Pokémon Showdown Pro through System Settings → Privacy & Security before opening it for the first time.

Move Pokemon Showdown Pro.app into the Applications folder before launching or updating the application.

This release expands in-app updating to more desktop builds and improves update installation, restart handling, rollback protection, and recovery across Windows, macOS, and Linux.

In-App Updates

  • Added in-app updating for Windows portable builds, macOS Intel and Apple Silicon builds, and extracted Linux builds.
  • Updates can now be downloaded directly through Pokémon Showdown Pro.
  • Added download progress and verification status to the Battle Hub.
  • Added a Restart to Update action once an update is ready to install.
  • Preserved downloaded updates between sessions so completed downloads do not need to be repeated.
  • Kept automatic daily update checks between battles.
  • Prevented update restarts while an active battle is still in progress.

Update Protection

  • Added checksum verification before downloaded updates are installed.
  • Added validation for package identity, version, operating system, and system architecture.
  • Preserved settings, saved data, and unrelated files when updating portable installations.
  • Kept the previous application version as a backup during updates.
  • Added automatic rollback if the updated application fails to start correctly.

Platform Fixes

  • Fixed macOS startup verification when different system path aliases point to the same executable.
  • Fixed Linux update and rollback restarts so they correctly use the portable launcher and required startup arguments.
  • Improved update failure diagnostics and build verification logging.
  • Updated Windows installer builds to run updates silently when using Restart to Update.

Upgrading from Earlier Versions

Earlier Windows portable, macOS, and extracted Linux builds require a one-time manual upgrade to v1.1.3 to receive the new in-app updater.

After upgrading to v1.1.3, future compatible releases can be downloaded and installed directly through Pokémon Showdown Pro.
