Search the text in your images

Screenshots and ad creatives are now found by what they say. Stash reads the text on your Mac with Apple's Vision (never uploaded, never written into your files) and keeps it in the search index. Images you already saved are read in the background after you update.

  • The detail pane shows Text in Image, selectable.
  • ⌘K › Copy Text in Image copies all of it.

Already saved? It merges

When what you're capturing is already in your library, the card says Already saved 3 weeks ago · #tags, and:

  • ↵ adds your new note and tags to that reference instead of making a second one.
  • ⌥↵ saves a separate copy anyway.

It recognizes the same page shared with tracking parameters (utm_, fbclid, si…), the same moment of a YouTube video (another moment is a new reference), the same text, and the same image or file.

Stash in your language

Stash now speaks Português (Brasil), Español and Français, besides English. It follows your Mac's language; to pick another one just for Stash, use System Settings › General › Language & Region › Applications. The README and the website are translated too.

The Shelf

While you're dragging anything (a file in Finder, an image or a link in your browser, some text), shake the mouse and a shelf appears under the cursor. Drop it there, go wherever you need, and drag it back out later.

  • Anything you drag: files and folders, images from web pages, text, links, and files that apps promise later (Photos, Mail).
  • Like finishing the drag: dragging out of the shelf behaves as if you'd never paused. Finder moves a file within the same disk and copies it to another one. Hold ⌥ to copy and keep it on the shelf too.
  • Nothing duplicated: files on the shelf are references to the originals, so big videos cost nothing. Dragged images, text and links are kept as small private copies.
  • Safe: Stash never moves or deletes an original itself, and dragging a shelf item onto the Trash is refused. If an original is deleted, its shelf item shows as Missing.
  • Stays with you: the shelf stays on screen while it holds anything, also after a restart. Click it to see each item; × clears it.
  • Menu bar drop: dropping things on Stash's menu bar icon also puts them on the shelf.
  • No permissions: shaking needs no extra permission. Turn it off in Settings › Shelf.

Also

  • README screenshots use original artwork; the website has a 43-second film and a Shelf section.
