1. Licensing Agreements and Third-Party Software:

  • Unity: Our team will develop the game using Unity, we will be following the terms of Unity's Personal or Student License, which allows free usage under certain revenue and funding conditions. We have reviewed Unity's licensing terms to ensure compliance.
  • GitHub: We use GitHub for version control and collaboration. We will use a private repository according to the class structure of CSCE490. This way we can secure and protect code and operate within GitHub's licensing terms.
  • FL Studio: FL Studio will be utilized for creating original music and sound creation by one designated team member, with the unlimited free trial for FL Studio. The free version of FL Studio will be used if necessary, with all samples and plugins verified for compliance with licensing requirements.
  • Unity Asset Store: Only free assets from the Unity Asset Store will be used in our project if necessary and or needed. Each selected asset will be reviewed to confirm it includes permissions for non-commercial use under the Unity Asset Store's terms.

2. Intellectual Property Constraints:

  • Our project does not involve a client, there are no third-party datasets or intellectual property constraints related to clients. All assets will either be original creations by our team or legally acquired through licensed sources from the Unity Asset Store, under terms that permit commercial usage and distribution.
  • We will ensure that no copyrighted materials are used without the appropriate permissions.

3. User Conduct and Legal Constraints:

  • Our game is designed to be a downloadable application for single and co-op multiplayer gameplay, using a peer-to-peer (P2P) system for multiplayer. While P2P minimizes risks associated with unauthorized data collection or central data storage, we recognize the potential for users to modify game files. To mitigate this, we will establish clear terms of service prohibiting unauthorized redistribution or modifications that could infringe intellectual property rights or local laws.
  • Terms of Service (ToS) and End-User License Agreement (EULA): We will write a clear and simple EULA that outlines what users can and cannot do with the game. Possibly an agreement to set legal boundaries to prohibit users from redistributing, modifying, or using the game to infringe on intellectual property rights.
  • In-Game Permissions and Data Minimization: For a peer-to-peer (P2P) system, it's essential to limit data exchange to just what's necessary for gameplay. Avoid collecting or storing any personal information to help protect user privacy and reduce risk related to data misuse.
