v9.3.1 for Azure Search
🐛 Semantic ranking fixes
Two issues that prevented semantic ranking from behaving as expected have been fixed.
Semantic ranking now applies when SemanticQuery is omitted
Semantic ranking (L2 reranking, captions and answers) is only applied when the request's query type is semantic. Previously this was only triggered as a side effect of setting SemanticQuery, so callers who omitted it — relying on the documented fallback to the main search text — silently received plain keyword (BM25) results with no reranking, even with a valid ConfigurationName.
The query type is now set to semantic whenever semantic options are present, making SemanticQuery properly optional.
Semantic queries now default to SearchMode.Any
Semantic queries previously required every term to appear in a document (SearchMode. All), which collapsed the candidate set for natural-language queries so the semantic reranker had very few documents to work with. Semantic queries now default to SearchMode.Any (matching the Azure Portal default) for better recall.
A SearchMode option was also added to AzureSearchQueryOptions so you can explicitly override the search mode on both the Search(text) and CreateQuery() paths. Non-semantic Search(text) behaviour is unchanged.
