LICENCE OF USE
The Integrated Forensic System for Multimedia Evidence Analysis, hereinafter referred to simply as Peritus, is distributed free of charge.
The source codes of the digital audio and image processing modules, hereinafter simply called plug-ins, that accompany this Peritus distribution, may be altered by the Participant or by third parties.
The Participant undertakes to make available to the Audiovisual and Electronics Forensics Service (SEPAEL) of the National Institute of Criminalistics (INC), free of charge, all modifications made to the source code of the plug-ins herein distributed, with SEPAEL being authorized to redistribute such source code modifications to third parties.
The Participant undertakes to make available to SEPAEL, free of charge, the source code of all plug-ins that it develops, with SEPAEL being authorized to redistribute the source code of such plug-ins to third parties.
The above provisions on making source codes available to SEPAEL and on clearance for redistribution to third parties also apply to all documentation, user manuals or other documents related to the development and the use of the modified or developed plug-ins by the Participant.
The Participant agrees that data on the use of Peritus and its plug-ins, which do not allow the identification of the user, cases or materials examined, will be collected and sent to SEPAEL, with the sole and exclusive purpose of subsidizing the development and correction of errors in Peritus.
HISTORY AND VISION OF THE FUTURE
Peritus was developed under the coordination of SEPAEL, with funding from the Financier of Studies and Projects (FINEP), under the terms of Agreement No. 01.12.0433.02-2788/09.
As of version 1.0.0, Peritus development was carried out exclusively by SEPAEL.
One of the intended results from the distribution of Peritus to official forensic bodies and to research or teaching institutions is to foster the development of plug-ins that will expand Peritus functionalities, which shall, in turn, be made available to all institutions referenced above.
This project is part of a larger effort to develop new techniques, improve existing methodologies and standardize procedures within the scope of Brazilian forensics in multimedia, ultimately aiming at greater cooperation and integration among the Union, the States and the Federal District with regard to the qualification, democratization, rationalization and implementation of actions aimed at an excellent performance in the field of forensic sciences.
EXEMPTION FROM LIABILITY
Peritus is distributed in good faith and as-is, with no obligation of support of any kind on the part of the Brazilian Federal Police and without any implicit or explicit guarantee that the results presented are correct.
The user declares to be aware that, like any software, Peritus may contain defects or programming errors (bugs).
The user agrees that the correct use, interpretation and analysis of the results presented by Peritus is his sole responsibility, without any possibility of liability of third parties, including SEPAEL, the Brazilian Federal Police and Loop Engenharia da Computação LTDA, due to any consequences of the use of Peritus.
