COMMANDER 1.2.8
STALKER GAMMA COMMANDER v1.2.8
Note: A fresh cache is required for this version. If the mod counter does not show 577, clean the download cache and re-download cache.
Mod Manager fix
- Fixed category grouping in the Mod Manager tab being shifted by one versus real MO2 (a separator now correctly labels the mods listed above it, not below — matching MO2's own convention).
- Newly installed mods now land at the top of the list, uncategorized, exactly like a fresh install in real MO2, and can be freely moved into any category from within COMMANDER.
- Removed the old "Extra Mods" auto-parenting behavior that silently moved installed mods back into that category on every reload, which is what made them impossible to move out of before.
Interface polish
- New "Reactor" theme (deep black with a glowing teal accent).
- Subtle hover/transition animations: a startup fade-in, a quick fade when switching pages, hover-scaled nav tab text, and a hover-grow effect on the main Play/Launch buttons.
- Quick Language and Theme switcher added directly to the status bar.
- "Up to date" / success indicators now use a consistent green across every theme instead of the theme's own accent color.
Updates page
- The "Available addon changes" list no longer shows a raw MD5 hash for updated mods. It now shows the actual version change (e.g. 1.4.1 > 1.4.2) or archive filename change when available, falling back to a plain "Archive updated" label. The technical hash is still there as a tooltip for bug reports.
Bug fixes
- Fixed a race condition in the Play page's Mod Organizer launch detection: a fast Proton/umu startup could be wrongly treated as an already-running MO2 instance instead of the one just launched.
- Fixed the Install page's repair flow silently skipping a pending GAMMA repair when both Anomaly and GAMMA needed fixing, while still reporting "no issues found."
- Fixed the Mod Manager's backup-status label not refreshing after a checkbox toggle, and a duplicate "Uncategorized" entry that could appear in the "Move to Category" menu.
- Fixed the Profiles page's Save/Create button sometimes showing the wrong label and action (e.g. "Create profile" when the click would actually rename the loaded profile).
- Fixed several Updates page status messages always showing in English regardless of the selected language.
- A handful of smaller logic bugs above were found and fixed along the way.
COMMANDER 1.2.7
STALKER GAMMA COMMANDER v1.2.7
Note: v1.2.6 was an internal development build only and was never released — this changelog covers everything new since v1.2.5.
Note: Verify Integrity is currently under maintenance. It's temporarily disabled on the Install page while I investigate a bug affecting modded executables. It will be re-enabled in a future update once fixed. Until then, please use the Reset GAMMA or Fresh Reset features.
Multi-language support
COMMANDER is now fully translated into 10 languages: English, French, Spanish, German, Romanian, Polish, Russian, Ukrainian, Portuguese, and Turkish. You can switch languages anytime from Settings.
Mod Manager overhaul
- Direct, drag-and-drop editing of modlist.txt: reorder mods, enable/disable, delete, and search, grouped by GAMMA's own categories.
- Flip Priority now correctly reverses the entire load order (categories and their mods together), matching real MO2 priority conventions.
- Install a local ZIP/7Z/RAR/FOMOD archive straight into the modlist, including a FOMOD wizard for mods with optional install components.
- Automatic backup before your first edit (modlist.txt.gammagui.bak), atomic writes, and edits are blocked while Mod Organizer is running so it can't silently discard your changes.
- New categories, restoring the original load order, and tracking of Commander-installed mods separately from GAMMA's own list.
COMMANDER Additions
- Mod counter in the top-right header, showing enabled/total mods for the active profile at a glance (Just like in Mod Organizer).
- Display/Font Scale presets (100–200%) for readable text in MO2.
- Interface font family and size controls (9–22px), applied instantly.
- Desktop shortcuts — one-click "Add shortcut to desktop" for a specific launch target and runner.
- Custom launch options field on the Play page for advanced users.
- "Always use GameMode" toggle for launches.
- System Check manual overrides — point COMMANDER at tools/libraries installed in non-standard locations.
- Desktop autostart toggle to launch COMMANDER on login.
COMMANDER ASSISTANT
A new bundled log-analyzer tool, launchable from Utilities, that inspects launcher logs and diagnostic archives to help pinpoint common Wine/Proton/MO2 failure patterns.
Install Dependencies
A guided one-click setup for everything MO2 and the game need: umu-run, protontricks (via pipx on PEP 668 systems), and the required Visual C++/DirectX Winetricks runtimes.
Utilities & diagnostics
- Create Log Dump / Export Diagnostics bundle logs, settings, and system info into one archive for bug reports.
- Move-installation, cache cleanup, and reset/uninstall flows got safer path validation and clearer guardrails.
- GE-Proton installer: browse and install releases in-app with checksum verification.
Bug fixes & security
- Fixed a path-validation gap that could let a destructive action (Fresh Reset / Full Uninstall / Move installation) delete a real system directory if a profile path ever pointed there.
- Fixed a cancel-timing bug in the GE-Proton installer that could permanently block reinstalling a build after a cancel.
- Fixed the Updates page's version-detection fallback so it actually falls back to the README badge when the changelog format doesn't match.
- Fixed autostart entries breaking when the install path contains a space.
- Added defense-in-depth validation against malicious archive entries when installing a mod from a local file.
- Numerous smaller UI fixes: Polish button text overlap, About/Help page translation completeness, mod-counter wording/capitalization, and consistent dependency counts across Dashboard and System Check.
- Added per-runner Wine prefixes, tracked separately so switching GE-Proton builds can't corrupt a prefix built by a different version.
COMMANDER 1.2.5
What's New in 1.2.5
New: COMMANDER ASSISTANT (Built-in)
A bundled companion app that reads your logs. It takes a diagnostic archive and breaks it down for you — surfacing errors, warnings, and key findings across every part of your setup instead of making you dig through raw log files.
How to use it
-
On the Utilities page, click Create Log Dump. It gathers COMMANDER, Anomaly, GAMMA/MO2, Wine-prefix logs, and crash dumps into a single .zip and opens it in ASSISTANT automatically.
-
ASSISTANT scans the archive and shows its analysis per area — launcher, MO2, the game itself (x-ray), Winetricks/VC-redist, and the CLI — calling out errors and warnings so you can spot what went wrong at a glance.
-
Use that summary to fix the issue yourself, or copy it straight into a bug report so a maintainer can help without twenty follow-up questions.
You can also open ASSISTANT directly from the Utilities page and load an archive any time. It launches as a separate window, so it doesn't block COMMANDER and you can keep both open side by side.
Mod Manager Overhaul
- Your installed mods now go into a dedicated "Extra Mods" category instead of landing in whatever category GAMMA left last.
- That category is now protected: GAMMA/Mod Organizer often rewrites its own modlist.txt, which used to scatter installed mods across other categories. Commander now tracks the mods it installed and automatically regroups them under Extra Mods every time it loads — preserving order and enable/disable state.
- Right-click menu on any mod: rename, enable/disable, move up/down, move to another category, open its folder, or delete.
- Rename only changes the modlist entry — it never touches the folder on disk.
- Drag-and-drop got a visual drag label, an insertion-bar indicator (even over category headers), and auto-scroll while dragging.
- Delete can optionally remove the mod folders on disk, with a clear warning.
- Install conflicts are handled cleanly: reinstalling an already-listed mod suggests enabling it instead; a leftover folder from a deleted entry can be replaced after confirmation.
- "Restore Original Order" is now safe — previously it reset the whole list (wiping added mods and re-enabling disabled ones). Now it only puts the stock GAMMA mods back in their default order and leaves your mods, categories, and toggles alone.
- Status-only changes no longer create a backup on every single click, and name validation was tightened to keep the modlist well-formed.
Install & Update Improvements
- Resumable installs — interrupted downloads are reused, only missing/corrupt archives are re-fetched, with a Resume GAMMA Installation option on the next launch.
- Live per-addon progress table with overall completion, and Anomaly is chained automatically when it's missing.
- Winetricks panel that checks Wine/Winetricks/Protontricks first, installs protontricks if needed, and runs the 11 runtime verbs.
- Minimal mode to reclaim ~50 GB, and options to preserve user.ltx and MCM settings on reinstall.
- Verify integrity & repair tooling over the installed GAMMA payload.
Play & Runner Improvements
- Auto and manual GE-Proton runner selection, per-runner prefixes (switching runners won't corrupt a prefix), GameMode support, live command preview with copy, custom launch options, and direct Anomaly launch.
- Game launches detached — closing Commander won't kill your session — with diagnostics that tell you exactly when a runner/prefix mismatch caused a failure.
Utilities
- Move Installation with copy verification, cancellation, and interrupted-move recovery checked at startup.
- Shader-cache cleanup, ReShade removal, download-cache cleanup with reclaimable-space preview, GOG path repair, a collapsible console, and diagnostic/debug archives.
- Guarded Fresh Reset and Full Uninstall that list exactly what will be deleted and refuse to touch system paths, home dirs, or symlinks.
Settings & polish
- Five themes (GAMMA, Dusk, Midnight, Terminal, Black), adjustable font size, startup page choice.
- Desktop autostart, custom launch options, tool overrides and diagnostic export.
- Single-instance lock (one Commander at a time), quieter startup warning chatter (broken icon-theme SVG warnings suppressed), and atomic file writes so a crash can't corrupt your load order.
Under the hood
- Your load order is crash-proof — Commander writes through a temp file and swaps it in only once the write is complete, so a crash or a full disk can never corrupt modlist.txt. A backup is taken before the first edit and kept automatically ever after.
- Interrupted operations recover themselves — a Move Installation that got cut off (or a crash mid-write) is detected on the next launch and offered for cleanup instead of leaving orphaned folders behind.
- The app never blocks while it works — installs, checks, and downloads run in the background, so the window stays responsive and every one of them can be cancelled cleanly. A single-instance lock stops two Commanders from writing over each other.
- Notable new capabilities — FOMOD (ModuleConfig.xml) installers are now handled natively, and the ASSISTANT utility can package a full diagnostic dump of the session to paste into a bug report.
- The AppImage now bundles its own Python and Qt (glibc 2.34+, Ubuntu 22.04+/Debian 12+/Fedora 35+/RHEL 9+), verifies its contents at build time, and if a common desktop library is missing it tells you the exact command to install it instead of failing silently.
