buddylist v0.3.1
What's new
- Smaller fixes — A conversation that started another, and a project's manager, no longer hear of what you ask that conversation in its own window: you saw the answer. The manager still hears when that turn changes files, in one note that says what was changed and said, rather than two, and it still hears how work it started ended, even work that changed nothing. A turn that says just what the last one passed on said, such as "CI is still running", is not passed on again. The update card, and Help > Check for updates..., offer When idle only while a contact is working or waiting for you, and then as the button to press, with who it is, such as "Claude is working". With nothing running they offer Restart alone, since it would interrupt nothing.
buddylist brings Claude Code, Codex, Gemini, OpenCode and Hermes into a classic messenger buddy list.
This release contains the latest changes that passed the automated tests and Mac, Windows and Linux builds.

buddylist v0.3.0
What's new
- A tidier conversation window — Its menus are named after what they are about: Conversation, Edit, View, Code and Help. On a Mac they are in its own menu bar, where Help searches them all, and on Windows and Linux the professional look has them in one ☰. New conversation is now Start over, Activities is Commands, with every slash command, Mode is Permission mode and Open is Open in. In the professional look the toolbar shares one row with the title: Contacts, Invite, Open in and Run, then the pull request and Side pane, which puts the side pane away and brings it back as it was. Subagents and Background are there while something runs. What is in the side pane opens from its tabs and their +, the View menu or its keys. Files go in with the + under the message box, the mode is its badge, and Start over is in the Conversation menu. A manager's conversation has a Team menu in Code's place, with Manager settings... and Turn off manager, and a new Brief tab that shows what the manager knows of the project, as it keeps it.
- A fresh manager once its context fills — When a manager's context window is 70% full, it writes all a fresh session needs into the brief: where each conversation stands, the messages that wait for an answer and what it meant to look at next. A fresh session of the same manager then takes over from the brief, before Claude would compact the conversation and lose what was decided. The conversation before stays in its message history.
- Tag a conversation for the manager — In a manager's conversation, type @ to pick one of the conversations it oversees, such as @claude (com-630-tags), and the manager knows which one you mean. A tag sends that conversation nothing. The manager writes conversations as tags too, and a click on a tag, in your message or its reply, shows that conversation.
- The manager's whole team under it — In the contact list, every conversation a manager oversees in its section is listed under it, not only the ones it started, and the count on its row says how many. Click the count to fold the team away. One the manager or a worker started says "started by" whom on its row when it has nothing else to say, and on its card.
- A Team tab that reads at a glance — Beside a manager's conversation, the Team tab sorts its conversations into Needs you, Working, Idle and Offline, each with a count, and its head says how many are at work. A row wears the same buddy as in the contact list. Under its name it says what it is doing, or else its branch and its pull request's size and tags, such as Conflict or 2 failing, instead of its folder. The one that needs you stands out, and idle rows are quieter. Point at a row for its folder and pull request.
- Invite, on tabs — Invite puts who can join on four tabs, each with how many are on it: New, Roles, Your agents and Contacts. It opens on the tab you picked last while anyone is on it, or else on Roles when you have any, and on New when you don't. Your agents are the ones you wrote as files, each tagged with where it is from, such as Claude Code · project. Contacts lists only the ones in the project's main folder: one in a worktree of its own would leave its worktree behind. ← and → go from tab to tab, ⌘1 to ⌘4 straight to one, and typing filters the tab.
- Your next message, ready to go — After every reply of a Claude or Codex contact, the empty message box shows in grey the message you would most likely send next, such as "looks good, commit it and open a pr". Press Tab to write it in, change it if you like, and send. Esc puts it away, and typing anything else does too. A conversation with guests gets none. Settings > General > Suggest replies turns it off.
- A merged pull request stays on its button — In a conversation, the button of a pull request that is merged or closed keeps it, such as PR #261 · Merged, and opens it on GitHub. Create PR, and the other ways to open another one, are in its ▼.
- Smaller fixes — A contact whose agent merged its pull request and then left the folder on no branch, as
git checkout origin/maindoes, shows Merged, with Continue, Archive and Delete, instead of how the pull request stood before the merge. The Checks tab of such a folder lists that pull request's checks instead of saying the branch has none. An added Claude account that your own login has since become, afterclaude /loginin a terminal, is no longer listed twice when you switch accounts, and switching after a usage limit skips it. Settings > Accounts marks it as the same account as your own login, with Remove beside it.

buddylist v0.2.42
What's new
- Add a manager in a few clicks — Right-click a project in the contact list and choose Add a manager..., or pick Contacts > Add a manager..., or type "manager" in the ⌘K palette. A small dialog starts it with Sonnet and, if you like, a first source such as the link to your PRD, then opens its conversation. A new manager is named after its project, such as "shop manager", and the project's menu then has Manager settings... and Turn off manager. Turned on in Settings instead, it says "Manager joined shop", with Open its conversation.
- The manager leads its project — A project's manager is listed first in its section, with a star on its buddy and a bar down its row. When it has nothing else to say, its row tells how many conversations it oversees.
- Invite whoever should join — Invite asks "Who should join this conversation?" and lists everyone in one place: the contacts already working on the project, your saved roles and teams (or Set up roles... when you have none), the Claude Code agents you and the project keep in
.claude/agents, and New agent for anyone else. A guest made from a Claude Code agent runs as that agent. - Your Claude Code conversations, from the first day — History lists the conversations you had with Claude Code before the app, in a terminal, the Claude desktop app or your editor, under From Claude Code, by folder. Pick one to read it, choose Add a contact here for a folder no contact works in, or Continue in a new contact there to go on with one from another folder. Add a Contact says how many Claude Code conversations the folder you pick has. A greyed-out button says why, and history that can't be read says so instead of looking empty. The FAQ explains what to do with claude.ai chats and
claude --teleport. - ⌘K finds more — Every page of Settings, and each project's pages, such as "shop › Manager". From the contact list, what the buttons over the selected conversation do: Invite, the terminal, View changes and Create PR. And the words you'd use for things: manager, oversee or PM, agent or reviewer, import or claude code, shell, PR. It looks through what was said in your conversations too, and when nothing matches it offers to search all message history for what you typed.
- Search by words — Search in History, over the contact list and in ⌘K finds a conversation that has every word you typed, in any order. Put words in "quotes" to find them side by side.
- A clearer Checks tab — Checks are grouped by how they stand: Failed and Running are open, Passed and Skipped are folded under a heading with a count, and a bar at the top sums them up. Click a check to open it on GitHub. Re-run failed waits, and says why, while a workflow is still running, and the tab refreshes every 30 seconds while checks run.
- Archive once merged, for one contact — The ▼ of View PR has Archive once merged. Tick or untick it, and that contact keeps its own choice, whatever Settings > Git says.
- Smaller fixes — After you switch accounts, the usage popover shows the account now in use, even in the middle of a turn, and the Context bar moves after every reply instead of only at the end of a turn. A link in a reply to a file outside the contact's folder, such as a proof video in
/tmp, opens. Outside the folder, anything that runs code, such as an app, a script or an installer, is not opened, and a dialog says why. Side-pane tabs keep their whole names, and a row too full for them scrolls with its arrows. A section's + lines up with the pull request tags, and a Merged tag beside a conversation lines up with the rest.

buddylist v0.2.41
What's new
- Start a conversation with Codex in it — Ask a Claude contact, or a project's manager, for "a conversation for COM-631 with Codex in it", and Codex joins before its first message. It is a group conversation from the start, so they take turns on the work. In demo mode, say "new conversation with Codex".
- A shorter Add a Contact — It asks only for the service, the nickname, the folder, a GitHub issue or PR and a team. The group, the branch, the model and the mode are folded under More options, with a line that says what is chosen there, and the OK button now says Add. A new contact has its service's picture, and Edit contact... is where you change it.
- A team for your first contact — The welcome wizard's Add a Contact has the Team field too. With no team yet, Set up a team... under More options makes one.
- Smaller fixes — Cancel in Add a Contact while its worktree is still being made calls it off: the worktree and its new branch are removed, and no contact is added. In dark mode, a dark app icon on the Open button, such as Cursor's or Terminal's, has a pale edge, so you can still see it.

buddylist v0.2.40
What's new
- New contact, History, Search and Spending over your contacts — Four rows over the contact list, and over the list beside a conversation, are a click away from what you do most: add a contact, read every contact's message history, open the ⌘K palette and see what your contacts cost. A contact added beside a conversation shows in that window.
- Pick the manager's model — Settings > Projects > your project > Manager has a Model picker, the same list as in Add a Contact. The manager takes a turn after every change, so a smaller model uses less of your plan. Its conversation switches at once, and changing the model badge there changes the setting too.
- All files reads like Changes — Each folder has an arrow that says whether it is open, and each file the picture of what it is written in. A file you open is drawn line by line, each with its number, in its language's colours, as a diff is. Copying leaves the numbers out.
- Smaller fixes — A contact's checks tag counts each check once, as its latest run left it, and no longer counts a cancelled check as failing, so it agrees with the Checks tab.

buddylist v0.2.39
What's new
- The manager asks before it messages a conversation — When a project's manager wants a conversation to change something, its window shows the message to read first, and you are told where you aren't looking. Accept sends it; Decline sends nothing and stops the manager until you write to it. Set the manager's mode to Never ask and it sends without asking.
- A Team tab beside the manager — The manager's window opens with a Team tab that lists the conversations it oversees: what each is doing, when it was last at work and how many replies you haven't read. One waiting for you is first and says Needs you. Click one to show its conversation in the window.

buddylist v0.2.38
What's new
- Project managers — Turn on a manager in Settings > Projects > your project > Manager, and a Claude contact named Manager oversees every other conversation working on the project. Point it to your PRDs, tickets, Slack threads and designs. Each time a conversation changes files, it checks the changes against them, the project's design and what the other worktrees are changing, and messages that conversation with what has to change.
- Linked files open beside the conversation — A link to a text file in a reply, such as
create.rb, opens in a tab beside the conversation, as a click in All files does, instead of in whatever app your computer opens it with. Right-click the link for Open file and the rest of the file's menu. - Context and usage for Codex — Codex contacts get the meter at the end of the status bar: how full the context window is and how much of your plan's limits is used, with when each resets. Click it, or type
/contextor/usage. - Arrows for tabs that don't fit — A row of tabs with more than it has room for, in the side pane or over the conversation, gets ‹ › arrows that scroll it a tab at a time. A trackpad scrolls it too.
- A bigger MCP Servers dialog, with search — It is wider and taller and shows about twice as many servers at once. Type a name, an address or a status such as "sign-in" to find one.

buddylist v0.2.37
What's new
- Restart to update when idle — When a new version is ready, When idle on the update card, or in Help > Check for updates..., installs it by itself once no contact is working or waiting for you and you have been away from the computer for five minutes. Restart still installs it at once.
- Project instructions, one click away — Project instructions... in a project's right-click menu, under Tools in a conversation, or "instructions" in the ⌘K palette opens what every new conversation on that project is told. In Settings, the page is now called Instructions.
- Ask Claude to write them — Tell a Claude contact something like "Make this the scope for this project: open the PR and merge it once the checks pass", and it writes the project's new instructions. A dialog shows you all of the text first, and nothing is saved until you click Save.
- Typing dots on Back to latest — While an agent is working, the button back to the newest line shows typing dots instead of its arrow, so you know more is coming while you read above.

buddylist v0.2.36
What's new
- The side pane collapses instead of closing — The arrows at the end of the side pane's bar fold it to a thin rail and give the window back its room, with every tab kept as it was. Click the rail or the arrows, or open any tab, to bring it back. It stays collapsed as you go between conversations in that window, and every conversation now opens with All files, Changes and Checks.
- Delete by pull request state — Delete all contacts... and Remove project... group the contacts they list under Merged, Closed, Open and No pull request, the safest to delete first. A group's box ticks or unticks all of it.
- Only signed-in accounts to switch to — Switch account... checks your Claude logins first, marks a signed-out one and won't put it in use. Switching after a usage limit skips it too, and a new account is listed only once its sign-in is confirmed.
- Clearer usage and errors — When Claude doesn't report a login's plan usage, the meter says so and points to Settings → Accounts instead of claiming there are no limits. It also shows session and weekly limits for plans that only list them. A turn that stops early shows Claude's own explanation instead of "something went wrong".
- Smaller fixes — Send all to chat, Re-run failed and Refresh in the Checks tab no longer look disabled.

buddylist v0.2.35
What's new
- Send every failed check to chat — Send all to chat in the Checks tab hands the agent every failed check in one message, with its errors and GitHub link. Send to chat on a single check or review thread sends just that one.
- Act from a contact's pull request tags — Click 2 failing, Running or Passed to open that contact's Checks tab. Conflict asks the agent to merge the base branch and resolve the conflicts. Both work in the contact list and beside a conversation.
- Pull request status in Shared — Pull requests shared in a conversation now show their status in the Shared tab: Merged, Conflict, failing checks, Running or Passed, including pull requests from other repositories.
- Back to the latest reply — Scroll up in a conversation and a button takes you back to the newest line. It counts the new replies that arrive while you are reading above.
- Fold away started conversations — Click the count on a contact's row to hide the conversations under it, and click again to bring them back. With the contact selected, Left folds and Right unfolds.
- Start Claude's side tasks at once — Settings > General > Start the conversations Claude adds lets a conversation Claude thinks of itself begin immediately, in the mode of the conversation that added it. Left off, it waits with an unsent first message for you to review.
- Personal and team Claude accounts together — Accounts can share an email address when they belong to different organizations. Their names show the organization and plan when available. Disconnect on your own login signs it out of buddylist and Claude Code in your terminal; added accounts still have Remove.
- OpenCode's models in the picker — Add models... lists the models from the providers you connected in OpenCode, along with its free ones. When a service has no models to list, the dialog explains why and what to do next.
- Settings in the title bar — A gear in the contact list and conversation title bars opens Settings.
- Smaller fixes — Deleting the contact you are viewing keeps the window's chat navigation working. Add role and Add team have room below their cards. The website has a shorter tour of the features, with the longer answers in the guides.
buddylist brings Claude Code, Codex, Gemini, OpenCode and Hermes into a classic messenger buddy list.
This release contains the latest changes that passed the automated tests and Mac, Windows and Linux builds.
Install on an Apple Silicon Mac
- Download buddylist-mac-arm64.dmg below.
- Open the disk image and drag buddylist to Applications.
- Open buddylist from Applications.
Updating an existing installation? Copies with automatic updates download each new version by themselves and ask you to restart buddylist to install it. A copy of v0.2.7 or earlier is replaced by hand this once: quit buddylist, then drag this version into Applications over it.
Coming from Agent Messenger? That is what buddylist was called before. Quit Agent Messenger, drag buddylist to Applications, and delete Agent Messenger from there. Your contacts and history come along the first time buddylist opens.
This release is signed with a Developer ID and notarized by Apple, so it opens like any other app you download.
Install on Windows (x64)
Download buddylist-win-x64.exe below and run it. Install Git for Windows for Claude Code and project scripts. This installer is unsigned. New versions download in the background and install when you restart buddylist.
Install on Linux (x64)
Download buddylist-linux-x86_64.AppImage, make it executable (chmod +x buddylist-linux-x86_64.AppImage), and open it. AppImage installations update in place. Your system needs FUSE support to mount the image.
On Debian or Ubuntu, you can instead download buddylist-linux-amd64.deb and run sudo apt install ./buddylist-linux-amd64.deb. Install the new package when an update is announced.
Intel Mac and ARM Windows/Linux installers are not provided. Use your own agent accounts: Claude Code is bundled; Codex, Gemini, OpenCode and Hermes need their respective CLI installed and signed in.
