TheCleaners 0.0.15-beta

TheCleaners 0.0.15-beta is the first beta in the 1.0 preparation series. It provides Windows temporary-file maintenance, read-only profile discovery, explicit safety controls, typed results, quiet imports, and deterministic source-layout packaging for Windows PowerShell 5.1 and supported PowerShell 7 releases on Windows.

Install

Install-Module -Name TheCleaners -Repository PSGallery -RequiredVersion '0.0.15-beta' -AllowPrerelease

Changes and compatibility

  • Temporary-file deletion is bound to opened file identities and reports proposed, removed, skipped, and failed candidates.
  • Empty-directory pruning is opt-in with -RemoveEmptyDirectory and is limited to directories emptied by that invocation and their qualifying ancestors.
  • Get-TheCleaners replaces Start-Cleaning; the old name remains a deprecated alias through 1.x. Neither command starts cleanup.
  • Get-StaleUserProfile returns typed, read-only results with explicit unknown-date handling and optional sizing.
  • Module import is quiet. The package includes generated external help and the documented aliases and exports.
  • Documentation uses the canonical title-case site.

Safety and validation limits

IIS and Exchange commands remain structurally preview-only. They require explicit -WhatIf, have no deletion implementation, and expose no force, bypass, activation, or Exchange removal switch. Their discovered candidate lists remain experimental.

Windows client/server, filesystem and privilege, profile, IIS, and Exchange lab validation is deferred future work and is not underway. Hosted fixture, package, publication, and installation checks do not establish product acceptance or production-ready 1.0 support. Final 1.0 acceptance remains open.
