Rewrite 2.0.1
Rewrite is now one program written in Rust, with a GTK 4 interface. Everything it did before still works; your settings and downloaded models carry over, and on Windows this installs over the earlier version.
New
- Faster: word suggestions and sentence rewrites run about 3 to 5 times faster.
- A compact title bar with the app icon, the menus and the file name in one row; macOS uses its own menu bar and window buttons.
- Sharp icons at every size on Windows, macOS and Linux.
- Downloaded models are checked against SHA-256 hashes.
- If Rewrite ever stops unexpectedly, the text you were editing is saved and the next start tells you where.
Fixed in 2.0.1
- Icons and window buttons were small and faint on scaled Windows screens (125% and similar).
- The Linux installers were missing from 2.0.0.

Rewrite 1.2.1
A fix for the LaTeX preview's bibliography.
Fixed
- References added to the .bib now show up in the LaTeX preview. When an old
.bblsat next to the document (for example from an Overleaf download or another editor), the preview kept reading it, so citations added since then stayed undefined ([?]) however often you recompiled. The preview now always reads the bibliography it just made. The same goes for old.auxand.tocfiles. - Papers that come with a
.bbland no.bib, as arXiv sources do, still show their references.
Nothing in your document's folder is changed: the preview still builds in a private temporary folder.

Rewrite 1.2.0
Find and replace, and cleaner undo.
New in this version
- Find and replace. Ctrl+F opens a bar above the text that finds as you type and shows how many matches there are ("3 of 12"). Ctrl+H or Ctrl+R opens it with a replace field.
- Enter / Shift+Enter (or F3 / Shift+F3) go to the next or previous match; Esc closes the bar and leaves the match selected.
- Select a word before pressing Ctrl+F and it becomes the search.
- Options: Aa matches upper and lower case, ab finds whole words only, .* takes a regular expression (
\1in the replacement puts back the first group). They are remembered between sessions. - Replace changes the current match and goes to the next; Replace all changes every match, and one Ctrl+Z undoes it, even for thousands of matches.
- Also in the toolbar (the magnifier) and the Edit menu.
- Rephrase sentence is now Ctrl+E, since Ctrl+R opens replace.
- One undo step per change. Applying a suggestion, accepting a reviewed change and "Revert everything to the original" are now each undone with a single Ctrl+Z. Before, the first Ctrl+Z left the old words deleted.
On macOS, use Cmd instead of Ctrl; replace is Cmd+R, and Cmd+G / Cmd+Shift+G go to the next or previous match.

Rewrite 1.1.0
A more compact Rewrite: the same features in less space.
New in this version
- Icon toolbar. Open, save, undo, redo, rephrase, preview, phrase hints, show changes and the theme are icon buttons. Rest the mouse on one to see what it does.
- Smaller default text. 9 pt interface and 11 pt editor text, with tighter line spacing and margins. If your text size was still the old default (13), it becomes 11; a size you chose is kept.
- Denser side panel. Each section's actions (accept, reject, fix, ignore, add to dictionary, revert, rephrase) sit in its heading. A short correction shows on one line, and long word meanings are cut to one line with the full text in a tooltip.
- Two columns below the editor. With the preview open, alternatives and sentence rewrites sit side by side.
- Status bar. Smart / Lite mode moved from the toolbar to the status bar; click it to manage the models.
- Tooltips open faster and stay on the screen.
- Markdown preview has a clearer gap between paragraphs.
