Contributor Camp XIV Planning

Where and When

November 11-17 2025 at the Technical University of Munich

The fourteenth SasView Contributor Camp (formerly known as code camp) will be held in Garching, Germany, starting Nov 10 on the Technical University of Munich (TUM) campus and is sponsored by the Heinz Maier-Leibnitz Zentrum Neutronen für Forschung und Innovation and the ESS. The full camp runs from the morning of Tuesday Nov 11 through Monday afternoon Nov 17. For registration, please fill in following indico page.

Overview

The camp is in the planning stages and more details will be added as they are firmed up. So please keep checking this page for the latest information.

The aim is for the camp to have a serious emphasis on improving support for magnetic SANS in SasView, but alongside the customary topics of addressing issues, training new contributors and holding discussion round tables. The emphasis on magnetic SANS is, however, not meant to be exclusionary: As always, folks with other interests they wish to contribute are always welcome!

Registration

Please register at indico page.

Travel and Accommodations

Attendees are responsible for their own travel, accommodation and subsistence.

Location

Garching is about 10 km northeast of Munich, Germany, and home to the largest campus of the Technical University of Munich (TUM) and the FRM2 research reactor. The nearest international airport is Munich Franz Josef Strauss (MUC) a further 15 km to the northeast.

Accommodations

A block of rooms has been reserved at the Dorint Business Hotel two tram stops away from the venue. Participants can either register here Indico Registration Page to be part of the block booking at the Dorint Business Hotel for 139 Euro per person/night including breakfast, or book their own accommodation.

Registrations for the block booking will be accepted on a 'first come, first served' basis and can be cancelled without penalty up until Oct 1.

Further convenient hotel options are the Motel One Muenchen-Garching and the Hoyacker Hof, but there are other hotels within Garching or Garching-Hochbrueck. Alternatively, on the TUM campus itself, there is the Courtyard by Marriott Munich Garching.

It turns out that mid-late Nov is a busy time in Munich this year and the hotels are filling up fast, hence early booking is strongly recommended.

Meals

The hotel rooms reserved in the block include a complimentary breakfast.

There is a restaurant on the ground floor of the venue (see below) and several restaurants nearby the venue for lunch, although these are not generally open on the weekend. There are a variety of restaurants around the hotel area for dinner.

Getting to the hotel

From Munich airport

The most convenient connection is by train/S-Bahn (S8 towards Herrsching) from the airport to Ismaning and onward by bus (S230 towards Garching, Forschungszentrum). There are further connection possibilities that pass through either Eching (train S1 towards M. Leuchtenbergring and then bus 695 towards Garching-Hochbrueck), or which pass through Munich city center, but these are more out of the way.

Arriving by train

From Munich Hauptbahnhof (Central Station) take an underground/U-Bahn line to either Odeonsplatz (U4/5) or Sendlinger Tor (U1/7 or U2/8) and then take the U6 towards Garching, Forschungszentrum.

Getting to and from the venue

The venue is two train stops north of the Dorint hotel on the U6 underground line. The Dorint Hotel is located nearby stop Garching-Hochbrueck, and the venue is at Garching, Forschungszentrum (end-stop).

Venue

The venue is on the top floor of the ISA building on the campus of Technical University Munich (TUM) in Garching. This is an great space well suited for our type of event

WiFi

Details to come but eduroam access is expected among other things.

Tentative Agenda

A tentative outline is posted below. The detailed agenda will be fleshed out over the course of the next few months. The expectation is that besides working on specific tasks (code, documentation, tutorials, websites, etc), there will be a roadmap discussion, some tutorials and breakout discussions/design planning. There is also expected to be a big push in improving the support for hard condensed matter SAS analysis, particularly magnetic SANS, and possibly also improving bioSAS support.
