Silly ReEncounter (Serious Sam: Next Encounter for GameCube as a native PC program), with a native Linux version and fixes on top of upstream 1.01.
No game code or data is included. You need your own disc image of Serious Sam: Next Encounter (USA G3BE9G or Europe G3BP9G); the launcher builds the game on your PC from it.
Downloads
- Windows (7 SP1 to 11, 64-bit):
SSNE-Native-v1.02-Windows.zip. Unzip, runSillyReEncounter.exe, then Select Disc → Install Game → Play. The launcher downloads its compiler once (about 146 MB). - Linux (x86-64, X11 or Wayland):
SSNE-Native-v1.02-Linux-x86_64.zip. Needs clang++ (recommended) or g++. Unzip, run./SillyReEncounter, then Select Disc → Install Game → Play. SeeREADME-Linux.txt.
Already have a game built with an older version? Open the new launcher and choose Update Game once (engine version 14).
Changes since 1.01
- Linux version: native launcher and game, built with your system's compiler.
- Fix: the jeep stopped working above 60 fps. In Via Aurelia and other jeep levels, the jeep stopped steering and accelerating after a while, and jolted while driving, when the frame limit was above 60. Its physics only work at the original frame rate, so the game now runs at 60 fps while you drive any vehicle (jeep, combine harvester). On foot, your frame limit still applies.
- Fix: Space in vehicles. Space (jump) used to press A in vehicles, which is "Exit"; it now stays jump there.
- Fix: frozen cutscenes. With the GPU renderer, in-engine cutscenes showed a frozen gameplay frame instead of the cutscene.
- Slightly lower CPU use on the game thread.
