What's in v0.1.4

• Removed Google's dependency-metadata signing block from the APK. This encrypted blob only serves Play Console and is rejected by F-Droid's scanner.

Together with v0.1.3 (reproducible builds), the APK now passes F-Droid's full verification pipeline.

Install

Download defang-v0.1.4.apk, sideload, set as default launcher, grant the prompted permissions. Upgrading keeps your data (same signing key).

What's in v0.1.3

• Reproducible builds enabled. The APK is now byte-identical when built from source on any platform: R8's META-INF/services output uses deterministic LF line endings, and the embedded VCS revision info is removed. This lets F-Droid verify and ship the developer-signed APK.

Same as before: download defang-v0.1.3.apk, sideload, set as default launcher, grant the prompted permissions. Upgrading from earlier versions keeps your data (same signing key).

Defang v0.1.2

Defang is an Android launcher that adds friction to apps that exploit your attention — an intent-gate countdown before watched apps open, a session timer, and a cool-down lockout after. Nothing is blocked; the pause is the feature.

What's new in v0.1.2

• New app icon — the fang. Adaptive icon with Android 13+ themed-icon (monochrome) support.
• Onboarding follows your system theme — light mode now renders properly; previously the light color scheme painted dark text on a black window, making headers nearly unreadable.
• Quieter onboarding button — the CTA is deliberately desaturated. A bright accent is the exact dopamine cue this app exists to remove.
• Bug fix — onboarding could launch multiple stacked copies on first run; it now launches exactly once.
• Refreshed screenshots (no display cutout) in the README and F-Droid metadata.

Install

1. Download defang-v0.1.2.apk below and sideload it.
2. Set Defang as your default launcher when prompted.
3. Grant Display over other apps and enable the Defang accessibility service (both prompted on first launch).

Defang v0.1.1

Defang is an Android launcher that adds friction to apps that exploit your attention. It doesn't block anything — it makes you pause and decide whether this is really how you want to spend the next few minutes.

What it does

Intent gate — a full-screen countdown overlay appears before any watched app (Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, …) opens, with a short note on how the app is engineered to pull you in.

Session timer — a small HUD counts down your session limit (default 15 min); at zero the app is pushed to the background.

End card — a recap of how long you were in, plus one extension per day that requires a written justification.

Cool-down — after the session ends, the app stays locked for a cool-down period (default 30 min).

Watched apps are configurable in Settings; sensible defaults cover the usual suspects.

This release

First public release with an installable APK.

• Signed release build (~2 MB)
• Release signing pipeline, restored Gradle wrapper, and Fastlane metadata in preparation for F-Droid
• Requires Android 8.0+ (minSdk 26), targets Android 15 (SDK 35)
