Summary

  • Start the disposable Droid ACP session before reading its advertised model configuration.
  • Keep that lifecycle invariant inside the shared model-discovery helper so future callers cannot accidentally skip startup.
  • Remove the now-redundant caller-side startup and add a regression test that proves configuration is only read after startup.

Root cause

The Droid health probe created an ACP runtime and immediately inspected its configuration reference. Droid advertises its model catalog during session startup, so the reference was still empty. That made an authenticated, working Droid installation appear unusable with "could not load a usable model catalog."

User impact

Authenticated Droid connections can now complete model discovery and report ready instead of showing a false catalog failure during guided setup.

Validation

  • bun install --frozen-lockfile
  • Focused provider suite: 136 tests passed
  • bun run fmt:check
  • bun run lint — 0 errors; existing warnings only
  • bun run typecheck
  • bun run build:desktop
  • Live source probe against authenticated Droid 0.178.0 on macOS: health changed from the catalog warning to ready, with 42 advertised models and the expected OAuth account label
  • Full bun run test: 11/12 package tasks passed; all 2,138 other server tests passed. Four unrelated cross-repository GitManager tests timed out at their 30-second limit. A focused rerun reproduced the same four timeouts; none touches the three Droid files in this change.

Manual verification

Using the installed Droid 0.178.0 and an authenticated Factory account, invoked the actual source health-check path and confirmed:

  • provider status: ready
  • authentication status: authenticated
  • authentication type: OAuth
  • usable model catalog loaded

No UI code was changed; this fixes the provider lifecycle boundary that feeds the dialog.
