RenderHub DCTLs — Documentation

Welcome to the RenderHub DCTLs Wiki.
This wiki documents the design intent, usage, and limitations of the DCTL tools published in this repository.

These tools are built for DaVinci Resolve color workflows and are designed to be:

  • Technically transparent
  • Scoped intentionally
  • Useful in real grading contexts

They are not presets, LUT packs, or one-click film looks.

📦 Available Tools

🎞 RH Filmic Colors

A density-based color model designed to preserve chromatic richness under contrast and exposure changes.

👉 RH Filmic Colors

🎚 RH MidControl

A contrast utility intended for visualizing pivot before making contrast adjustments.

👉 RH MidControl

RH End Tones Sculptor

A tool to shape and tint your shadows and highlights creatively

👉 RH End Tones Sculptor

RH Chroma Gate

A hue control tool that lets you control the saturation of a hue across shaodows, midtones and highlights

👉 RH Chroma Gate

RH Hue Compressor

A hue control tool that pulls stray hues toward their natural target angle.

👉 RH Hue Compressor

RH Hybrid Dye Engine

An advanced film emulation and color grading tool that blends between digital and film seamlessly.

🎛 Intended Workflow

All tools in this repository assume:

  • Scene-referred input
  • DaVinci Wide Gamut / Intermediate (DWG/DI)
  • Proper color management upstream

They are not display-referred creative effects and are not designed to replace:

  • Full film emulation pipelines
  • IDT/ODT systems
  • Spectral or photochemical simulations

Each tool page specifies its expected placement in the node tree.

🚫 What These Tools Are NOT

To avoid confusion:

  • These DCTLs do not perform full spectral simulation
  • They do not attempt to replicate an entire film pipeline
  • They are not universal solutions for every workflow

They are deliberate, constrained models built to solve specific color behavior problems inside Resolve.

📈 Development Status

This repository is under active development.

  • Tools may evolve
  • Controls may change
  • Behavior may be refined

There is no fixed roadmap or timeline.
Feedback is welcome, but implementation decisions remain scoped intentionally.

💬 Discussion & Feedback

Technical discussion is welcome when it is:

  • Focused on behavior and usage
  • Grounded in practical workflows
  • Respectful of differing approaches

🧭 Where to Start

If you’re new:

  1. Read RH Filmic Colors
  2. Review Density-Based Color Behavior
  3. Try the tool in a controlled test grade
  4. Evaluate behavior before conclusions

This wiki exists to support understanding, not to win debates.
