RH Filmic Colors
Note
RH Filmic Colors is a color behavior tool, not a look preset. It is designed to be used once per shot in a controlled position in the node tree to manage density, saturation, and tonal response.

This tool expects scene-referred / log data. It must be placed correctly to function.

- ❌ AVOID: Heavy Contrast Shaping, Aggressive Saturation, Look LUTsWhy? The cleaner the input, the more predictable the density behavior.
If you need isolated adjustments (Keys, Qualifiers): Use Parallel Nodes.
! TIP: Parallel nodes isolate the DCTL from secondary keys, preventing density distortion.Primary adjustments for the entire image state.

Deep, independent control over specific color vectors using the 6-Vector Engine.
- Enable 6-Vector to activate.
- Adjust Hue, Saturation, and Density for each of the 6 primary vectors.
Density in this tool is Saturation Weighted. It deepens rich colors without affecting neutral skin tones.
# Global Density BiasControls how light interacts with the image overall. Use this to add "weight" or "thickness" to the image without crushing black levels.
Displays the internal response curve.
Useful for understanding where adjustments are acting.
Allows independent control of Shadows 🟦, Mids 🟩, and Highlights 🟥.
Recommended for:
- Look Development, Split Toning and Controlled Color Shifts
Defines where color vectors converge at the dynamic range extremes.

| Unite at White ⚪ | Recommended. Highlights fade to neutral white. Keeps speculars clean. |
| Unite at Black ⚫ | Shadows fade to neutral black. Prevents lifted/tinted blacks. |
Show Zone Masks helps visualize where your Split Toning allows adjustments.

- ❌ Placing after a Look LUT or Output Transform.
- ❌ Using it as a "Look Generator" (it is a behavior engine).
- ❌ Stacking multiple instances (One per shot is sufficient).
- ❌ Doing heavy secondary keys BEFORE this node.- Set Color Management / IDT.
- Balance Exposure / WB.
- Add RH Filmic Colors Node.
- Adjust Global Response / Density.
- Refine Vectors (if needed).
- Perform creative grading downstream.
Final Note: Evaluate this tool by how it behaves during grading, not just by how extreme the sliders can be pushed. It is a utility for chromatic preservation.
