Mac Control 0.2.8 (20261020142000)

Choose a tag to compare

Mac Control 0.2.8 refreshes the look of the app and fixes a range of reliability issues.

• A cleaner, more native design. Dashboard cards use quieter surfaces with clearer headings and one prominent reading each, the sidebar uses the standard translucent sidebar material, and readings change color only when they cross a warning threshold. Settings rows follow the System Settings layout, and the island's text, controls and tabs are more consistent.
• Fan control reconnects on its own if macOS ends the fan service's session, for example after switching users, instead of showing Ready while cooling is unavailable. The fan service also restores automatic cooling if it is stopped moments after starting, and the cooling status says Reconnecting while it recovers.
• An update that was interrupted before it finished is now detected and reported, and its leftover copy is cleaned up on the usual schedule. Settings shows progress while an update downloads.
• Audio level meters no longer miss short peaks, and switching output devices no longer pauses the interface.
• Music and Spotify changes appear right away, with less background polling while playback is paused.
• Window shortcuts no longer fire while you record a new one, and edge snapping finds the dragged window faster.
• Run in background at login shows when macOS needs your approval, with a button to open Login Items. Appearance changes apply to the open window immediately. Quit Completely now has a shortcut, Option-Command-Q (⌥⌘Q).
• If Calendar or Reminders access is denied, an Open Privacy Settings button takes you to the right place.
• The activity chart explains when there is no data yet, temperature charts scale to hotter readings, and the Overview warns when your Mac is under thermal pressure.

For automatic installation, keep Mac Control in a folder writable by your user, such as ~/Applications.
This full Developer ID build is separate from Mac Control Beta on TestFlight.
Fan writes remain restricted to the supported Mac17,9 model and require approval of the fan service.

Mac Control 0.2.7 (20261020072441)

Choose a tag to compare

Mac Control 0.2.7 shows more about what your Mac is doing on the Overview page.

• A new Memory card splits RAM into app, wired, compressed, cached and free, the way Activity Monitor does. It also shows memory pressure, how much swap is in use, and how fast memory is moving to and from disk.
• The activity chart now has Memory and Network tabs alongside CPU & GPU and Temperature. Hover over it to see exact values.
• The CPU card splits time into user and system work. The Battery card shows time remaining or time to full, plus power draw and cycle count in its tooltip. The temperature card shows CPU and GPU readings.
• New Startup disk, Network and System cards show free space, peak network speeds, uptime and load average.
• "Memory used" is now counted the way Activity Monitor counts it, so the menu bar figure may differ slightly from before.

For automatic installation, keep Mac Control in a folder writable by your user, such as ~/Applications.
This full Developer ID build is separate from Mac Control Beta on TestFlight.
Fan writes remain restricted to the supported Mac17,9 model and require approval of the fan service.

Mac Control 0.2.6 (20261016081714)

Mac Control 0.2.6 makes Show Desktop quicker to reach.

• Show Desktop now defaults to Control-D (⌃D). Press it to minimize your windows, then press it again to bring them back. If you recorded your own shortcut, it stays in place; choose Reset in Window Management to switch to ⌃D.

While Mac Control runs, ⌃D is reserved for Show Desktop in every app, so it no longer deletes forward in text fields or ends a Terminal session. Record a different shortcut in Window Management if you rely on those.
For automatic installation, keep Mac Control in a folder writable by your user, such as ~/Applications.
This full Developer ID build is separate from Mac Control Beta on TestFlight.
Fan writes remain restricted to the supported Mac17,9 model and require approval of the fan service.

Mac Control 0.2.5 (20261015070628)

Choose a tag to compare

Mac Control 0.2.5 keeps cooling control reliable while your Mac is busy.

• Fixed "The fan service did not respond" and "Cooling state unknown" appearing when the Mac is under heavy load, such as large builds or long-running tests. The fan service now runs at normal app priority instead of background priority, so it keeps answering the app and supervising the fans when every core is busy.

The updated fan service must be approved again if macOS asks.
For automatic installation, keep Mac Control in a folder writable by your user, such as ~/Applications.
This full Developer ID build is separate from Mac Control Beta on TestFlight.
Fan writes remain restricted to the supported Mac17,9 model and require approval of the fan service.

Mac Control 0.2.4 (20261007095236)

Choose a tag to compare

Mac Control 0.2.4 is an important cooling safety update. Please install it before using a cooling profile.

• Fixed a serious issue where a fan service error could stop both fans at 0 RPM while the Mac was hot. Returning fans to automatic control no longer sets a zero speed, and fans that macOS is already managing are left alone. If automatic control cannot be confirmed, the fans run at full speed until it is.
• Quitting Mac Control completely now also stops the fan service after it confirms automatic cooling. macOS starts it again when you reopen the app.
• The fan service now records why it returned control to macOS, to help diagnose any future cooling problem.

Mac Control 0.2.3 (20261006052015)

Mac Control 0.2.3 fixes issues found in a full audit of the app.

• Timer, focus and device events are visible again on the collapsed island and are announced to VoiceOver.
• The menu bar shows the temperature readout when it is turned on.
• The headline temperature now reports physical sensors. Cooling safety checks still use every reading.
• Minimum-speed cooling profiles now rise with temperature from 70°C and reach full speed at 90°C. The updated fan service must be approved again if macOS asks.
• Monitoring-only Macs no longer show a cooling warning after sleep.
• Declined and cancelled meetings are no longer shown as your next meeting. Recurring events and date-only reminders display correctly.
• Muted apps stay muted when they start new audio processes, and adjusted apps no longer start at full volume.
• Keep awake resumes after a brief sleep instead of ending silently.
• Window snapping ignores resizes and edges shared between displays. Show Desktop shortcuts must include Control or Option.
• Scanning your startup disk counts user folders once. Network rates are accurate on fast connections.
• On Macs without a notch, the island sits below the menu bar instead of covering menus.
• Text contrast in Light appearance, accessibility labels, and several smaller reliability issues are improved.

For automatic installation, keep Mac Control in a folder writable by your user, such as ~/Applications.
This full Developer ID build is separate from Mac Control Beta on TestFlight.
Fan writes remain restricted to the supported Mac17,9 model and require approval of the fan service.

Mac Control 0.2.2 (20261006005747)

Mac Control 0.2.2 fixes an update installation hang.

• Install and Relaunch now completes cleanup before the final quit, allowing the native installer to replace the app and reopen it.
• Explicit Quit Completely uses the same corrected shutdown sequence.
• The latest Island layout, spring motion, blur and notchless status remain included.

Older builds affected by the quit hang may need one manual ZIP installation to receive this fix. Close the older copy, replace Mac Control.app in ~/Applications, and reopen it. Subsequent updates use Check for Updates.

Requires Apple silicon and macOS 14 or later. Per-app volume requires macOS 14.2 or later. This full Developer ID build is separate from the TestFlight beta. Application source remains private.

Mac Control 0.2.1 (20261006003908)

Choose a tag to compare

Mac Control 0.2.1 includes the latest Dynamic Island layout and animation improvements.

• Displays without a notch now use the compact Island centre for track title and artist, timer or keep-awake status, file count, or idle CPU usage.
• The expanded toolbar uses the full width on notchless displays and labels the selected tab. Physical notches retain their clear centre.
• Island expansion and collapse use smoother motion and progressive content focus, with the compact backdrop and expanded seek row kept inside the surface.

Requires an Apple silicon Mac running macOS 14 or later. Per-app volume requires macOS 14.2 or later. Fan control is supported only on Mac17,9; the M1 MacBook Air is fanless.

Unzip and move Mac Control.app to ~/Applications. Existing direct-download users can use Check for Updates. This full Developer ID build is separate from the TestFlight beta.

Mac Control 0.2.1 (20261005161201)

Choose a tag to compare

Mac Control 0.2.1 replaces its third-party updater with our native updater.

• The app now has no third-party package dependencies.
• Signed release information and downloads are verified before extraction and installation.
• Daily update checks remain optional. You choose when to download and install.
• Install and Relaunch restores automatic cooling and original audio before restarting.
• The native installer replaces the app atomically and retains a recovery copy until restart.
• The fan-control helper remains our own signed service. It is refreshed after an update when enabled; macOS may request approval again.

The first upgrade from an older build uses that build's existing updater. Once this version restarts, subsequent updates use Mac Control's native updater.
For automatic installation, keep Mac Control in a folder writable by your user, such as ~/Applications.
This full Developer ID build is separate from Mac Control Beta on TestFlight.

Mac Control 0.2.0 (20261005011114)

Mac Control now checks for updates directly from GitHub.

• Check for Updates is available in Settings, the app menu, and the menu bar.
• Optional daily checks notify you when a new compatible version is available.
• Review release notes, download with progress, cancel, skip a version, or choose when to install.
• Signed release information and signed downloads are verified before extraction and installation.
• Install and Relaunch quits fully, restores automatic cooling and original audio, and keeps your settings.
• An enabled fan service is refreshed after the app updates. macOS may request approval for the updated service.

This full Developer ID build is separate from Mac Control Beta on TestFlight.
Download the ZIP, extract Mac Control.app, and place it in Applications before opening it.
Fan writes remain restricted to the supported Mac17,9 model and require approval of the fan service.
