Descent 3 as a standalone VR game for Meta Quest, now also carrying experimental PICO support. One APK serves both.

You need your own copy of Descent 3 (original CDs, GOG or Steam). This release contains only the engine.

Downloads

  • Descent3-VR-0.3-beta.apk — install with adb install -r Descent3-VR-0.3-beta.apk or SideQuest

Game data setup, controls and the CD extraction tools are in the repository: quest/README.md and quest/tools/. The complete source for this build is the quest-v0.3-beta tag of this repository (GPL-3.0).

Changes in 0.3-beta

  • The same APK now also declares itself a PICO VR app and offers the PICO 4 / Neo 3 controller bindings.
  • Meta's newer controller profiles (Quest 3, Quest Pro) are bound directly instead of relying on the runtime remapping the classic Touch bindings.
  • Head tracking is no longer a required feature, so the APK installs on non-Meta headsets too.
  • The downloads are named Descent3-VR-<version> now, since one build serves both headsets.

Tested

  • Meta Quest 3: the game runs (72 fps, stereo world and cockpit).
  • PICO: never tested. No PICO hardware was available. It is unknown whether PICO OS hands the bundled Khronos OpenXR loader its runtime; if it does not, the app will start without entering VR. Reports welcome: adb logcat -s Descent3:V prints the runtime it found and the controller profile it bound.
