Release list
Shelf v0.5.2
Tidier pages, from a second day-to-day test run.
- Stories stay on the page. A story under a thing on the left of a page could run off the edge of the screen. Name tags and stories now fit two side by side, and anything near an edge is moved in, including things you arranged yourself.
- Doodles keep out of the way. The stars and hearts on a page only go in empty space, never on a name tag, a sticker or the date stamp.
- Evenly filled pages. Each thing sits in the middle of its quarter of the page, so there's no empty band at the bottom.
- Dragging keeps everything on the page: the sticker, its favourite star, and the tag and story under it.
- Smaller things: two picks read "Snip out both", "Swipe the row for more" only shows when there's more to see, no page dot under a single book, and the label on a thing's page no longer crowds its buttons at large text sizes.

Validation
All twelve day-to-day test cases passed on 0.5.1; the six issues they found are fixed here and were checked on the emulator, including a page of four things with long names and two-line stories. Eleven Android emulator tests passed; the layout test now also checks that tags and stories stay inside the page. Lint passed with no errors. The release and preview APKs installed as updates over 0.5.1. APK versions and signatures verified. SHA-256 checksums are attached.
Day-to-day test cases are in docs/testing/day-to-day.md.
Shelf v0.5.1
Fixes from watching Shelf being used day to day: adding, looking back, and tidying up over a few days with real photos.
- Several things from one photo. Tap as many objects as you like, snip them all at once, then name each in turn. They stick into your book together.
- Pages that don't overlap. Things you haven't arranged sit in a tidy grid, each sized so its name tag and story fit beneath it. Things you placed by hand stay where you put them.
- You always know which book. Every adding screen says where the thing is going, for example "Into Summer camp". From the calendar, new things go into the book you last added to.
- Favourites show. A red star marks favourite things on their page, on the calendar and on a day's sheet.
- Delete from a thing's page. A delete button now sits next to the edit button.
- Clearer cut-outs. The things you pick are drawn bold while the rest of the photo dims. The row of objects shows when it scrolls, and small photos get a note that their sticker may look rough.
- Fixed: today's ring on the calendar hid the count of extra things that day.
- Fixed: moving a thing to another book reshuffled that book's pages. It now joins at the end.
- Fixed: things could be dragged partly off the page while arranging.
- Smaller things: wording only suggests what can help, the first book is called "My first book", an empty book has no "0 things" badge, long thin things get more room, and wide photos get a neater border.

Shelf v0.5.0
Shelf turns up loud. Every screen is brighter and busier, and things move when you touch them.
- A new look everywhere. Seven bright inks, thick ink outlines and hard shadows, fat display titles and doodles in the gaps. The desk is cobalt, the calendar is pink checks, and each thing sits in its own sunshine.
- Book patterns. Each book has a bold pattern on its cover and a paler one on every page: grid, dots, stripes, checker or gingham. Books you already have keep a matching pattern.
- Things move when you touch them. Buttons press down onto their shadows. Stickers peel up and their tags swing, book covers swing open, pages turn, date stamps thunk, and the add button throws a handful of doodles. Nothing moves on its own, and nothing moves at all when system animations are off.
- A fuller calendar. The date is never covered. A day's things sit alone, fan out, pile up or make a little grid by how many there are, with +N for more, and each day lights up by how full it was. Tap a day and its things jump out onto a sheet of their own. The month tears off when you change it.
- Favourites. Mark a thing as a favourite from its page.
- Fixed: naming a new book or renaming one didn't open the keyboard. It now opens with the dialog, and text fields always offer keys rather than handwriting.

SHA-256 checksums are attached.
Shelf v0.4.1
A fix for typing in dialogs.
- Fixed: renaming a book, or naming a new one, closed the keyboard as soon as it opened. The dialog now stays open and moves up above the keyboard.
- When you name something you've added, the field you're typing in stays above the keyboard.

Shelf v0.4.0
Shelf is now a scrapbook. The things you keep go into books on a desk, and each book has pages you turn.
- Books. Your shelves become books, and nothing you kept is lost. Each cover is made from the book's own things, with its name in cut-out letters. Swipe or use the arrows to move between books, and use the options button to make, rename or delete a book and choose its paper: grid, dots, lined, plain or cork.
- Pages you turn. Four things share a page, each with its name on a kraft tag and the start of its story in pen. Drag a page and it turns around the spine like paper, or use the arrows.
- Arrange a page. Tap the pencil to drag things, twist them, change the paper or tidy up. Shelf remembers where you put them.
- A calendar. See each month with the things you kept on the days you kept them.
- A page for each thing, with its sticker, the photo it came from, its date and its story. Things can now be edited, moved to another book or deleted.
- Adding something happens on the paper of the book it goes into: tape the photo down, cut along the blue line, write its name on the tag, and Stick it in.
- Fixed: a sticker could stay blank for good if Android closed Shelf while it was being cut. It is now cut again.

shelf-0.4.0-debug-upgrade.apk: development build signed with the same debug key as earlier development APKs. It updates a development installation while keeping its books. Version name 0.4.0, version code 4.
shelf-0.4.0-preview.apk: optimised, non-debuggable build signed with the debug key. It installs next to Shelf as Shelf Preview with its own separate books, so you can try release speed without touching your existing app. It updates an earlier Shelf Preview.
The standard release-signed APK is not attached yet; it will be added once built with Shelf's release key. Do not uninstall an installation containing keepsakes you want to keep: Shelf has no export yet.
Android 9 or newer. Google Play services is required for background removal.
Validation
Eight Android emulator tests passed. They cover moving existing shelves into books, saving, editing, moving and deleting things, page layout, real single and multiple-object segmentation, tap and long-press selection, snipping, restoring a draft after the activity is recreated, and sticker outlines. Lint passed with no errors. APK versions and signatures verified. SHA-256 checksums are attached.
Shelf v0.3.0
Shelf has a new, cleaner look. The things you keep become cut-out stickers on hand-drawn shelves, every screen has one clear action, and anything you need to read uses your phone's own font.
- A new welcome screen: drawn keepsakes float while Shelf gets ready, then gather onto a shelf.
- Tap an object to select it (press and hold still works). When a photo has one object, it is selected for you. Scissors then cut it out along a dashed line.
- Adding something shows its steps, keeps Save to shelf reachable while the keyboard is open, and explains missing fields in plain words.
- Faster: stickers are cut in the background and cached, screens change with a short fade, and the cut-out model loads just after launch.
- Fixed: "Just the little thing." no longer repeats, and keeping the whole photo no longer says the cutout failed.
Downloads
shelf-0.3.0-debug-upgrade.apk: development build signed with the same debug key as earlier development APKs. It updates a development installation while keeping its shelf. Version name 0.3.0, version code 3.
shelf-0.3.0-preview.apk: optimised, non-debuggable build signed with the debug key. It installs next to Shelf as Shelf Preview with its own separate shelf, so you can try release speed without touching your existing app.
The standard release-signed APK is not attached yet; it will be added once built with Shelf's release key. Until then, the release-signed 0.2.0 app cannot update to this version. Do not uninstall an installation containing keepsakes you want to keep: Shelf has no export yet.
Android 9 or newer. Google Play services is required for background removal.
Validation
Six Android emulator tests passed, covering real single and multiple-object segmentation, tap and long-press selection, snipping, persistence, activity recreation, and sticker outlines. Lint passed with no errors. APK versions and signatures verified. SHA-256 checksums are attached.
Shelf v0.2.0
Shelf now waits for you to choose what to keep. Press and hold a detected object, confirm Keep this, and watch its surroundings dissolve in a gentle three-second reveal. Selection buttons provide an accessible alternative to long-press.
- Select between separately detected objects; transparent gaps such as mug handles are excluded from touch selection.
- Save only the selected cutout, with draft restoration and animation pause/resume.
- Keep the full original as a framed photo when detection is unavailable.
Downloads
shelf-0.2.0.apk — standard, release-signed, non-debuggable Android APK. Version name 0.2.0, version code 2. Android 9 or newer; Google Play services is required for background removal.
shelf-0.2.0-debug-upgrade.apk — development build signed with the same debug key as the earlier shared APK. Use this to update that installation while retaining its local shelf.
The standard release uses a new release signing key and cannot update the earlier debug-signed app in place. Do not uninstall a development build containing keepsakes you want to retain; uninstalling deletes the local collection, and export is not available yet. Future standard releases will use the same release signing key for normal updates.
Validation
Five Android emulator tests passed, including real single/multiple-object segmentation, long-press selection, transparent-hole hit testing, persistence, activity recreation, and pause/resume. Release build and lint passed (lint warnings remain). APK signature and version metadata verified. SHA-256 checksums are attached.
Selection is limited to objects the model detects separately; overlapping objects may be grouped together.
