SimWin 0.1.0
SimWin 0.1.0, the first release.
- Run the Windows debug build of your Flutter app on your Mac, as the IDE device “SimWin · Windows 11”.
- Hot reload, hot restart, breakpoints and DevTools.
- Toolbar for display scale, window size, light or dark mode and locale; screenshots and recordings.
- Help ▸ Report a Problem… to send us diagnostics.
- Signed with Developer ID and notarized by Apple. Universal (Apple Silicon and Intel), macOS 14 or later.
SimWin 0.0.3
- Performance profiler: a live readout on the taskbar (frame rate, frame time, CPU and memory) and a Performance panel (Window ▸ Performance…, ⌥⌘P) with frame timings, CPU and memory charts, what your app, the runtime and SimWin each use, and startup times. Record a session and export it as CSV or JSON. Works when the IDE is attached, too.
- Projects without a windows folder: instead of a build error, SimWin offers to enable Windows for the project, as your IDE does for iOS and Android. Nothing changes until you click Enable Windows.
- Export logs: save the log as a text file or all of SimWin's logs as a zip (Export in the log view, or Export Logs… in the menu bar).
- The simulator window can no longer be made smaller than your app.
- Lighter on your Mac: while no app runs, SimWin's Windows background processes now use about 0.2% CPU and 63 MB (was 1.3% and 83 MB), and the performance readout uses about half the CPU it did. App logs on disk stop at 10 MB.
- Stopping an app from your IDE no longer shows "quit unexpectedly (exit code 143)".
- Changing the scale, language or profile (or Relaunch) no longer makes the simulator disappear while the app restarts: it stays where it is and says what it is applying, for example "Applying 125% scale…".
- SimWin no longer leaves processes running. Quitting ends everything it started: builds, your app and the Windows background services, including when you quit while a build or launch is still in progress. If SimWin crashes or is force-quit, it cleans up what was left the next time it opens. Previously these could keep using memory and CPU until you restarted your Mac.
- Redesigned About window, and a simpler setup with one progress bar.
- Anonymous usage statistics (which features are used and how builds go) help us improve SimWin. Never your code, project names or file paths. Turn it off in Settings ▸ Share anonymous usage data. Details: https://simwin.dev/privacy/
- Licence Agreement updated to version 1.1 (privacy section).
- Signed with Developer ID and notarized by Apple. Universal (Apple Silicon and Intel), macOS 14 or later.
SimWin 0.0.2
SimWin 0.0.2 Beta
SimWin is now in beta, for Windows debug builds only. Version numbers restart at 0.0.x for the beta; if you have 0.1.0, this update is newer and installs as usual.
- The simulator is a Windows-style desktop with a SimWin wallpaper, a taskbar, a Start menu and quick settings. Your app runs inside it, as one window with the simulator, with no separate Dock icon.
- Real Windows title bar: minimise goes to the taskbar, maximise fills the simulator's desktop, and restore and close work as on Windows.
- Wi-Fi switch in the taskbar (or simwin network off) to test offline handling; the debugger stays connected.
- Apps you've run appear as desktop icons. Double-click to build and run; right-click to Run, Show in Finder or Remove from Desktop.
- SimWin opens to the simulator, with ▶ to run a recent project and ⚙ for Settings.
- Faster runs: SimWin keeps Wine warm between runs (about 9 s instead of 16 s on our test Mac).
- No more Wine error dialogs when an app closes. If an app quits unexpectedly, SimWin tells you, with Show Logs and Report a Problem.
- Changing the display scale or locale keeps your app in front.
- New About window with Check for Updates and readable acknowledgements, and the SimWin Licence Agreement (Help ▸ Licence Agreement).
- Signed with Developer ID and notarized by Apple. Universal (Apple Silicon and Intel), macOS 14 or later.
